  2. The Marsden Cove Route 66 is Richmond Yacht Club’s “short” coastal race – 66nm from Auckland to Marsden Cove, Whangarei. Organised in association with Onerahi YC, the race includes open keeler, multihull and singlehanded divisions. With a 9AM start you’ll finish Friday evening with time to join in the party at Marsden Cove Marina. It is a great introduction to coastal racing for new boats as the safety requirements are Cat 4+ and the fleet stays within the barrier islands.

The singlehanded division of the Route 66 is the "Route 1" and is the longest singlehanded coastal race in NZ. We expect over 20 boats on the line this year!

Get more information on the links below.

    Friday 4th March 2016, 0900 hrs start

  7. Richmond Yacht Club Presents: Tiritiri Matangi as a Cruising Destination

We’ve all done it...we sail through the Tiri Channel on the way to Kawau and wonder what is going on over there on the “Bird Island”.
When was the last time you went ashore on Tiri?
Have you ever been ashore on Tiri?
You should, ‘cos it’s a great place to visit.

It is a destination which is well worth adding to your itinerary for a stop. You could spend a couple of hours on the way to Kawau, or anchor over in a beautiful sheltered bay as part of a longer trip and enjoy a leisurely stroll amongst the birdlife. There is great snorkelling off the beach too!
Tiritiri Matangi has much to offer to families and cruisers alike.

To find out more about Tiritiri Matangi as a cruising destination, come along to the Richmond Yacht Club this Friday (25 Sept) for dinner and a chat.

Bar open from 6pm, dinner from 6.30.  Talk at 7.30pm

  8. VAGABONDS AND LADIES
A glimpse back at some of Auckland’s Sailing History.

To help lead into the 75th Anniversary of the club being at Westhaven, we have arranged an evening to hear a little about the “South Sea Vagabond.” Tony Stevenson of the Tino Rawa Trust will be the guest speaker at our August Social Dinner.

Tony will be telling us some of the history of the yacht Ngataki and her sailing adventures in Auckland and the Pacific Ocean Seventy Five years ago.  Ngataki was built by Johnny Wray in the 1930’s and sailed extensively around New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Johnny’s book “The South Sea Vagabond” was recently re-released and is available from Boat Books.

Tony has a great selection of photos and will take some interesting excerpts from Ngataki’s “Ship’s Log”  The Ngataki has a long and colourful history and Tony is a great speaker, so I am sure you will all have a most enjoyable evening.

Bar opens at 6pm, dinner at 6.30pm, Presentation at 7.30pm

Menu for the night: Beef Curry, Butter Chicken, Bananas in coconut, Raita, Green Beans, Rice, Naan Bread and Pickles. $20.  Please let Kate know if you are coming so that we don’t run out of food.  RSVP to office

  9. It’s the last race of the CRC and New World Winter Series this Sunday – it’s a special course with an earlier first start of 0930.

Make sure you’re at prizegiving! Lidgard Sails have sponsored a major spot prize of a $1,000 voucher to be given away to one lucky skipper. Skippers received one entry for each race started in the winter series – so the more races you entered the more chances you have to win! You have to be present at the prize giving to claim this prize.

Those great boys from Lidgards are putting on a sausage sizzle after the race and before the prize giving to satisfy your appetite after a hard day on the water.

Look out for prizes from CRC, New World, Fosters Harken as well as some great Macpac gear to give away to our prize winners!

  10. Come celebrate the legendary Auckland yachtie Flap Martinengo in RYC’s “around Rangitoto” race, the Flap Martinengo Memorial Race. This is a Saturday day race and includes a circle of Motuihe island as well.

This year we’re racing it in the winter, Saturday 13 Junejust to add a bit of challenge!

Legend has it that Flap raced Namu as such a bare boat that he had to carry a kettle around to beg tea from his competition once the anchor was down.
