Guest
Looking at an Esprit 4mtr/ 14 foot cat by Malcolm tenant with main and jib. How did they stack up against windrush 14 and hobie 14 turbo? Cheers
madyottie 82
Have owned a Paper Tiger, Windrush 14SS, and Wildcat (designed and built by Austral Yachts in Whangarei). Raced against an Esprit 4.5 (the bigger version) once only. The windrush was fastest reaching and running, while the PT was easily quickest around a course thanks to the daggerboards giving better upwind performance and easy fast tacking. The Hobie seemed to be better upwind than the Windrush, but not by much, and still slower than the PT's.. Around a course, the Windrush seemed to be a pretty good match for the Hobie turbo's at our club. There was also a Buffalo that went really well. The wildcat was a bit heavier, but still went well. On the one occasion I raced against the Esprit it was a long way behind the PT's. Much like Dan said above, it's been a while since I sailed any of these.
