For those who do a little stainless welding.

Firstly, I'm only an amateur welder so the following may well be a case of 'everybody knows that!'

Most stainless boat gear welding is small stuff, for me, railings, a cabin heater, pad eyes and today's effort, making end fittings for as new whisker pole. Since this involves small bits of 316 and often in odd shapes as well, setting up the work accurately for welding can be difficult especially as my back yard weldery doesn't run to all those expensive specialist vise grip type clamps.

Today I used super glue and it works surprisingly well. The mating surfaces need a whisk with a file to remove any grinding marks so the glue can stick then a spot of glue to join the bits. It takes only a minute to cure and can then stand fairly rough handling. The first tack weld joins the bits permanently and vaporises out the super glue at the same time and nothing will have moved out of alignment when you're striking the arc.

Like Dilmah tea, 'do try it.'
