He's got a means of communication, he just needs to wave at the photographer.

 

There is of course a risk he may just get ignored should he get into difficulty, or run down by a mystery power boat with no relationship whatsoever to any of the challenging teams, and definitely would not have a slightly demented kiwi at the helm....
