HPR 20 Resin

Does anyone have experience with the HPR 20 resin? From adhesive tech.

I have been recommended it for board/ski construction, but it is only available in the big tub. At the casual cost of $480. Which is marginally (significantly) too expensive to purchase only to find it is the wrong product.

Would be keen to hear from anyone who has experience with rubber toughened / heavy pyrolysis resins. Or even better; someone with HPR-20 that i could buy enough for a layup (dreaming...) to see how it goes..

Ta Ben.

thats an interesting choice for what im guessing is a home build. the HPR is generally a thicker ( gluggy ) resin that takes caution to use, especially with the finer weave cloths.

an interesting point to note is that generally a composite engineers wont calc what type of resin you use, unless its a critical glue join.

that said being previously involved in some glue and peel testing, it was found that ATL's own standard resin 'A30' to have had the best result over the other resins tested. the HPR25 and Sparbond passed it after cooking ( not these are purpose blended for bonding, and not regarded as a resin )

You've got to ask yourself are you vacuum bagging, are you going to be post curing at an elevated temperature ?

Would not recommend laminating with HPR better to get ADR246TG which is a rubberized epoxy laminating resin. HPR is great tho when secondary bonding, prime the surface with your HPR then apply your taping wet out with a laminating resin. You're best just to talk to the guys at Adhesive tech, Grant and the team are always really helpful and able to talk you through the applications of all there products.

Thanks for the info. Not vacuuming, put pressing under 70 psi with a pneumatic press, and the heat blanket is still a work in progress.

Snow-skis and longboard skatedecks, but always keen to meet people doing similiar things thanks fng!
