Brendon 0
Anyone know someone sailing down the East coast on a yacht the Republic? Meanwhile, police issued a call to all vessels after a yacht became stranded with mechanical failure about 8km off Cape Palliser, across Wellington Harbour on Wairarapa’s isolated south coast. Mr Hart said a man was stranded and there was concern for his safety as gale force winds were rising and blowing the yacht further offshore. The 10-metre yacht is called the Republic and a commercial vessel was acting as a radio relay station because the signal was poor. A police boat went to rescue the man. Mr Hart said the yacht was expected at Wellington's Chaffers marina about 10pm Sunday. He said the yacht had an electrical fault and was found about 13km of the coast near the tiny fishing village of Ngawi in south Wairarapa. It is not known where the man is from but it is thought he was not intending to sail to Wellington and was probably travelling to the South Island.
