Guest
Over the last year or so we’ve occasionally run a school holiday programme here at the Marine Rescue Centre. We take kids 12 years and up and for the first 4 days we put them through a Day Skipper course. We generally do most of the teaching in the morning and in the afternoon we find some other activities which in the past have included visits to Deodar III, Westpac and presentations from the Harbourmaster etc. On day 5 kids have the option to come back for a morning or afternoon session on the training boats. We’ve also added a VHF course. The kids seems to really enjoy it and there is the bonus that they have the opportunity to earn NZQA credits. I’ve attached a bit of info and it’s also here on our website: http://www.coastguard.org.nz/event.php? ... vent_id=90 Cheers Darren Darren Arthur Education Manager School Holiday Programme Jan 2014 (low-res).pdf
