Antarctic_Suz 0
Antarctic climbing guides turned sailors Available mid to late Feb for a week or 10 day cruise. You tell us where and we'll be there. Both of us have strong recommendations from the RYA instructor on our Day Skipper Course in Feb. 2013. We have been bareboat chartering sloops in the 29’-36’ range by ourselves or with non-sailor friends. We’ve coastal sailed on a couple week-long cruises in different oceans and are keen to crew on monohulls with experienced sailors on anything from coastal cruises to longer crossings and high latitude voyaging. We are highly motivated to cruise under sail and quite disinterested in motoring between marinas. We have spent our professional lives managing risk and working with people in hazardous terrain, operating in severe weather, navigating with map/compass, and on extended self-sufficient expeditions where resources are limited and rescue would be difficult to come by. We are certified and field-experienced Wilderness First Responders. Five months per year we work as survival trainers and guides for scientists for the US Antarctic Program as well as on the Search and Rescue Team with our Kiwi counterparts from Scott Base. Skills include GPS, pulley systems, marine radar. We also work as rock climbing and technical mountaineering guides (Exumguides.com Corkran, Detweiler). We are keenly aware of the importance of having the right people along in terms of fun and safety. We are looking for new challenges and to explore the other 70% of the Earth’s surface. Susan’s ultimate goal is to crew along the Antarctic Peninsula. Ned’s degree is in Mechanical Engineering, Susan’s is in Biology/Enviro Studies; both are keen naturalists. We swim, snorkel, sea kayak, and are in our late forties. Non-smoking, no drugs; do not want to be around those who do. Drink in moderation. Send us a message! We are super keen, motivated learners with a playful, positive attitude toward life.
