  1. Hi all!

Was wondering if I could get a few helping hands?

I would really like to finish sanding the interior so I can start rebuilding my boat. I am trying to get the boat back in before the summer series starts, as I would like a bit of time to get a crew out and to learn the boat so we can the Coastal Classic this year. But if I don't get the sanding done I will never make it in time! :-S

So I thought maybe we can have a fun day sanding and I can provide food and some beer to all of you helping hands! Anyone in? If so, when would you be available? Would be very, very, very much appreciated! Please, please please pretty please!

    Thanks in advance!

Already got one helper, any one kind enough and with some spare time on their hands?

Maybe Monday could be a good day?

"Oona Ritson - Hmm so I can imagine I may regret this but I'll offer up my services! (depending on when etc.)"

  2. Thanks everyone for encouragement!

Here are some more updates for those of you who do not have Facebook....

My friend Jared came by this weekend to help with the removal of the antifoul.

Chris also made a bit more progress on it today as well...

Sanded the bulkhead so we can glue on new ply to strengthen it up and well also to make it look a bit more eye appealing!

Went over to Adhesive Technologies to learn about epoxies and what not and Grant Beck explained that it's just like baking a cake and icing it too. I can't wait to start!

Here is what I purchased to get started!

Now hopefully tomorrow I can start building and coving in the bow! Resins and powders have been bought...now the fun can begin!

  4. yep, I have a big mother shop vac you can buy rent steal whatever. Just need to pick it up.

    Thank you very much! :D

Already being put to good use!  :thumb up:

.... now if only someone had a spare hand to loan me for some sanding...

  5. Hi all...

Was wondering if anyone has a good vacuum cleaner for boat work that is just sitting in storage unused that they would be willing to loan me? The one I was using has been taken back, and trying to clean up the dust from sanding is proving to be quite difficult with no vacuum cleaner.

    Cheers

  6. That being said - if you're racing with Ken against me then I think the best thing would be to put in a full days work on the boat followed by an all night drinking session - go with the good owner option! Be careful to show up to sail no later than 11am on Saturday :-).

    Thanks Dean. You'll keep...

Dean, Ken is a perfect example of how a crew should be!

Ask him what he did last night and why we aren't racing today! :silent:

I may have to relax and go rum racing instead.... just have to watch my rums! :shifty:

  7. Thanks guys!

I really appreciate the support!

Kinda took last week off as I was exhausted and needed a break from the boat. This week I have only made it down twice as I have been busy making a bit of money. Then there is the Auckland regatta which I am doing on Voom.

So getting a little behind on what I consider the most tedious work up until now. Sanding the entire interior of the hull by hand. I have found a helper but he can only help me tuesday mornings (thanks Diego!) Going to try and complete the boat by sections that way I can advance and feel like there is progress being made rather than sanding the entire boat in one go.

First on the list is the bow. Once the bow is sanded back I can start fitting in the anchor locker and also do some coving to make it easier to clean up the boat. Build the bow bunk and varnish.

Then Ill work on the stern making a step, fitting in a few lockers, building my wet room... and of course coving and varnish.

Then the mid section... you all will get more details when we get to that area! A lot could change from now until then! :wtf:

Can't decide if I should be a responsible BOAT OWNER and go work on my boat today, but then have jelly arms and be tired for the Auckland Regatta or if I should be a responsible CREW and rest up today so I am fit for the regatta? Any opinions? :shifty:

  8. Ps. Thanks for the advice Smithy! Have already been thinking about all that. Have had Matt (Island Time) down to the boat a couple of times now. Hopefully he can be my electrics Guru!

  9.

So funny to read everyones reactions just becuse the cabin top is now on the floor! :P

Ha ok...soooo before the cabin top was just sitting on top of some wedges on the hull, not much different to it being on the ground. The difference now, is that it easier to work both in the boat and on the cabin top with it off the boat.

We had already sorted the removal of the deck with just slightly lifting it, but I want to fill in all the holes in the cabin top and sand it back like new. Also want to fiber glass a few areas to strengthen it back up. Better to be safe than sorry....and easier done on the ground than sitting on some wedges on top of the hull.

If the $150 bill for the car repair was a bit of a set back, prepare yourself for a bit of a long haul here Ash.........

Great photos, and fantastic project, I'm just glad it isn't me doing it.

Thanks for the comments... as per the one fifty.... I see it as sh*t there goes a new clutch...not just as 150. I know it's going to be costly, hence why I am doing all the manual labour and learning along the way. Have to be very thankful of Chris (my partner) for really throwing himself at it (as he is just as clueless as I am, just has bigger muscles! ) and Gary Patten for really being an angel and being our guide and showing us both how to do everything. Ha today Gary even said "Well sh*t, you have knocked everything else out, you might as well knock the galley out too!" I turned and asked...."how much will that add on?"...he reckons about 6 hundy... I said "Well...we shall leave it for now." He thinks I'll knock it out with in a couple of weeks. Anyone care to take a wager?

It all comes down to: will my new visa come through? How long before it does? and how quickly can I get a new job?! So for all of you out there, I am looking for a job!! Hopefully boating related...there might be a sailmaking one on the works...fingers crossed! :D

Does the 3-2-1 rule of house renovation apply to a yacht refit?

Take you 3 times as long as you thought

Cost you 2 times as much as you thought

you will only do it once?

You certainly have taken on a major project and the hard work now begins. Good Luck

Well I sure hope it doesn't take longer than expected, as I want to be out racing by next summer series. As per cost....well yeah its going to be more than planned as there is more project now...once you start you can't stop! Grrrrr there needs to be an invention of some sort that stops you from doing too much!

As per will I do it again???

Ha most likely not! But hey if they were to make a show out of it like THE BLOCK, and it was a guaranteed win of a crap load of money in the end, then I might consider it!

But really, I am doing all this hard work now in one go, so that in the future I do not have to do such a job again. If I take care of my boat and properly maintain her over the years, then she will do well for many years to come! :-)

  10. Removal of Cabin Top!

    1796678_441866882611701_1482535713_n.jpg

There was lift off and then a sudden stop as there were some pesky wires from the engine compartment hidden behind the insulation foam that we had not removed...oooopps!

    Pesky wires....

    Until next time!

  11. Did you finish your galley? I wanna see!
Nope, I forgot I had to make a door for the house. The frecking house project is sucking up too much time but it's oh so close now, we may even finally get a working kitchen later this week, haven't had one since Xmas. The boats one is 80% done even if all hot glued together to make sure it all fits nice 1st. I'll give you a tinkle and pop around for beer and butchers at my messes... being the house and the boat

Hahaha...so I guess thats a no go for the Solo this year? You'll just have to buddy up with me in 2018!

Well the misses will be happy to have a working kitchen finally!

Hot glue everything together first? really? is that how its done?

Cabin top came off this morning...Man o man she really looks massive and roomy now with no cabin top!

grrr had bad news on my car...$150....frustrated.... so came home to do house chores and to make some lunch. After lunch back to the boat to get her all cleaned up for sanding the interior. Oh joy! Gonna be just me all week cleaning her and sanding her... gonna take ages as all done by hand!

Anyone got some extra time on their hands willing to help? Beer will be given on the job! :shifty:

  12. Having seen my boat in that exact state at Xmas I'll be interested to see how long that smile lasts

Now the irritating part starts.... but it is nice having the end of day shower after seeing more new stuff arrive back in the beast that day.

Looks like your hull is like mine, built like the proverbial brick outhouse

Now off to hopefully finish my galley today. The fiddly arse bloody things they are.

Did you finish your galley? I wanna see!

  13. cant see from those but hope you've tossed the insulated icebox as well.........near 40 years down the track they're pretty manky and getting ineffective insulationwise

Actually my ice box works really great!

    Holy -What's gonna be left?

The ice box! :P :P oh and the starboard aft bunk.... You should come by and see one day, also tell me about the RNI :)

    1896904_439980662800323_1705799437_n.jpg

Maybe I should keep toilet and put it in the stern to have a great view and to keep the stench out of the boat!

    1977390_439980696133653_1019044785_n.jpg

...well maybe it should be on the cockpit floor so we don't have any accidents of crew falling overboard!

Port side practically all cleared... new layout for interior of boat...

Hmmm really liking the added head room....should an extention be added?

It is unbelievable how once you start with one thing it trickles to 50 billion other things. How do you ever know when to stop??

When I am finished, this definitely will not be the same boat anymore... :shh: :shifty:

  16. Ok these are the photo's trying to get her out of the water and into the shed:
