  1. Yes - please a link as I can not find it.
  2. Knot Me ... Please show how you got to that number. I suspect you're misinformed again.
  3. I'm knot alluding to vanity, I'm alluding to a blatant grab of tax and ratepayers money/property by the one or more property developers. A older, female one perchance?
  4. Really? ... Which ramp? ... Did you lift your boat cradle over the chain or bollard or does it fit between or under? ... Or was one of them unlocked? ... If so, at what time was this? Not calling you a liar Knot Me ... but this is extremely inconsistent with the monitoring I've done when I walk the dog.
  5. If being a Takapuna resident who sails a sailing dinghy and is locked off from all access to the beach except by a very crowded boat ramp where there is almost no space to rig my boat safety would make me biased - then I guess I am. Locked off and only one ramp?? Whot utter bollocks, there is at least 4. No space?? As there is well over 24,000 square metres of area on the beach alone without adding in all the grass spaces attached to it one does wonder if you really can call your boat a sailing dingy. So your desire is for the taxpayers and ratepayers to spend many millions of dollars and r
  6. If being a Takapuna resident who sails a sailing dinghy and is locked off from all access to the beach except by a very crowded boat ramp where there is almost no space to rig my boat safety would make me biased - then I guess I am. At least Takapuna is my back yard - it is NOT the backyard of vast majority of people who want to keep the camping site. And BTW - I don't really care what happens to the camping site - I want access to the beach and a place for all local dinghy sailors to stow their dinghies rather than clogging up an already very busy single boat ramp. A few pages back I
  7. I agree 100% I almost agree 100%. I'd like to see YNZ present their case tho and why other locations, e.g. like the property beside the TBC can't be used. (FYI - NSCC has been buying up multi-million dollar properties in other bays to turn into public spaces. Can't see why ACC and Central Govt can't stump up for the property beside the TBC to turn into a club (i.e. semi-public) space.) And if the seawall is built which is inevitable due to slowly rising sea levels (see my posts on Page 13) then the camping ground can be turned into 100% public space complete with BBQ areas and chi
  8. The process thus far has been seriously un-democratic! On that we can agree. (Yes my post on the previous page about things being done behind closed doors we indeed being ironic. And past processes that led to the lease being renewed years ago were too. Were you aware of that? Further, the misinformation published by the "leave it as it brigade" has been nothing short of a scandal! This is evidenced by talking to the "leave it as it brigade" who I talk to in person as they're looking at the campsite when I'm walking the dog. They all seem believe the entire site is being turned into plush
  9. I'd not support renewing the lease until the current management publish a business plan to bring the site up to spec. I suspect that without serious public funding the business case just wouldn't stack up.
  10. _Your_ opinion, and at best, argument ad hominem. At worst, just plain name calling. It doesn't help advance your cause. Have you seen it recently? Its an apt description of the current state as they know their lease isn't being renewed, consequently, its getting more and more rundown.
  11. The makeup of the Takapuna-Devonport local board looks very similar to last. BUT ... Chris Darby hands his place to the second place getter and we loose his presence. Without a doubt ... the fight over Takapuna beach continues ... but now Balgarion's on the case now too
  12. Election result: NORTH SHORE WARD Chris Darby, Taking the Shore Forward, 13367 George Wood, Fair Deal for Shore, 13107 Bother! One for (Chris) and one for keeping the eyesore camping ground (George). I hope both are reading this thread and are realising that Council's management of Takapuna beach leaves a lot to be desired! Anyway, congratulations to both. I do hope both will take up some of the ideas on this thread. And I hope George stops pandering to the small number of well monied people who are primarily protecting and pursuing their own selfish interests and ensures the
  13. Sent to ACC's "action line" via their web form today (http://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/EN/F ... nline.aspx). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enquiry about: Complaint about our service -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How can we help: With regards: Access to Takapuna beach for Sailing Dinghies The council provides extremely limited access to Takapuna beach for sailing dinghies. There are four car ramps to the beach which would allow a sailing dinghy on a beach cradle
  14. ... Why is trailer access to Takapuna beach restricted one boat ramp only? ... Why are chains/bollards to the other 3 ramps never unlocked/removed? ... Is this a plan by Auckland City Council to ensure sailing dinghies can never launched from the beach? In case you're wondering - get the wind from the wrong direction and all sailing dinghies have to tack up and down the only open ramp which the fizz boat guys do not find amusing as we take up so much space. When I say "we" it takes just two dinghies and we block the ramp or must launch one at a time as we navigate through the

  16. Does anyone know which candidates in the local elections are supporting the YNZ plan? Or, if you don't know who is supporting the plan, then who isn't so I can vote against them.
  17. When I asked at Takapuna BC - there are none. When I asked at Milford BC - there are none. When I asked at WBC - there were full, weren't sure if a 5m dinghy would fit and I'd be put on a waiting list which I'd be on for some time. When I asked at Murray's BSC - there were full and the waiting list long. Your assertion that they'd be more facilities with more money I'd question as regards existing clubs. Both WBC and Murrays BSC are on small bays where beach space is at premium when things get busy in summer as bathers and strollers need access too. High tides are a nightmare BTW. An
  18. Looked at the price of a second hand opti lately, which is the starting point for kids now? Not much change from 2 grand for a setup if you don't want your kid to start off on the wrong foot, 4 grand plus to be competitive. That's way beyond what the average family can afford. Sorry OYSTR, you sound like the very privileged few you appear to despise. A quick scan through trademe and there are plenty of "starter" sailing dinghies under $500.00. Kids should start on old, tired dinghies and learn to look after them, repair them and sail them well. Hell, I did and so did most of the
  19. All the North Shore schools have access to the Waterwise programme which have boats on the beach at Murrays Bay, Lake Pupuke and Wakatere. Murrays bay and Wakatere have private lockers too. St Joseph's actually go up to Murrays Bay, Takapuna Intermediate use Pupuke. I'm sure Takapuna primary could get to Pupuke and Taka Grammar to Wakatere if they don't already. Waterwise is a voluntary program for primary and intermediate. High schools are on their own. Waterwise sailing is limited to Optimists. So where do the high school kids sail? Answer they don't! Its all up to parents. And
  20. Clearly you haven't read what I said. The whole area would be public. Dinghy sailing is poor mans sailing. Where on earth did you get the idea you needed to be rich? Once you can sail, sure, then you can go sailing with rich men who need crew! Oh really? Please share the schools and where you are referring to. The schools I talk to say its a frustration as few boat clubs have storage for dinghies and those around Takapuna have nada! Clearly you haven't read what I said. I wasn't that interested in YNZ. My focus was storage for sailing dinghies that encourages the sailors
  21. List of schools (thanks to B&T) from Takapuna Hauraki School - 0.6 Km Takapuna Grammar School - 1.3 Km Belmont Intermediate - 1.5 Km Westlake Girls' High School - 2.6 Km Wilson School - 1.1 Km Takapuna School - 1.3 Km St Joseph's Catholic School (Takapuna) - 1.3 Km Rosmini College - 1.4 Km Bayswater School - 1.7 Km Belmont School (Auckland) - 1.8 Km Hato Petera College - 1.9 Km Onepoto School 2.4 Km Northcote Intermediate 2.5 Km Carmel College - 2.7 Km St Mary's School (Northcote) 3.4 Km St Leo's Catholic School (Devonport) 3.5 Km And a short and safe bike ride away
  22. Funny how things are ... The property right beside the TBC is for sale http://www.realestate.co.nz/2041880 7.2 mill asking price ... Be a nice spot for YNZ ... NSCC has bought up a whole heap of coastal properties in the last 5-10 years. Why not this one and lease to YNZ? Would give then direct access to the new dinghy storage area at the foot of the property too. And the existing friggin' eyesore that is the camping ground can be turned into what ever people want ... split between a park and a charity operated set of small, basic holiday cabins to benefit charity groups like dying
  23. Enough for now.... Unfortunately I don't know what you consider to be enough, which was kind of the point of my question. I also don't know what YNZ think is enough, nor ACC... which I think underscores why it's difficult to really have a productive debate about this. Hi Mark, Just been down and did some pacing around. The area I marked in yellow has few issues - its pretty much a dead area with little or no marine life. The high water extends right up to the existing sea wall which I note is being undermined so repairs will need to be made soon. In summertime, very
