  1. Wanted to buy, new or used Yanmar tachometer for a 2GM20.

My current one stopped working after I tried to fix some rust. It has no hour counter and the screen reads P=97 in very small writing at the bottom, 12v. If anyone has one laying around that they would be willing to sell i would be very greatfull.

    Cheers, Ross

Another thought for the purpose of that hose. If it wasn't clipped up in the top corner of the coachroof then I'd say it was an emergency bilge pump. Close the seacock and open the valve on the end of the pipe, then the engine will pump water out of anywhere you put the end of that hose. I still think anti siphon based on where it goes though.

I think the hose was put there to run fresh water through the cooling system via a hose from the dock.

  3. You dont have to go far, the Gulf is really under rated, there are so many great spots you can get to in just a few hours. I have a 6 year old daughter and 2 year old daughter and they find interest in almost everything on our sailing trips, it might be the crabs or star fish ashore, the ducks that swim out to meet you (Mahurangi) or swimming from the boat. We sail from Gulf Harbour Marina and our favourite spots are Tiri Tiri, Mahurangi, Motutapu (very underrated, this island has alot to offer) Kauwau, Motorekareka and the bottom end of Waiheke.

  4. I have no head unit, I run a bluetooth receiver into cerwin vega equiliser then onto a 3 channel D class amp. This powers 2x fusion cockpit speakers on R channel and my saloon speakers (6.5 Alpine component) on the L channel, third channel powers the 8" sub in the saloon. I Control the fader, volume and sub volume through the equiliser, sounds great. I listen to reggae, funk, house, and dub most of the time.

  5. Hi Dual Control, I have a Sarca Excel and love it. I have a number 2 on a 30ft boat (a resonably light one, so I swing around alot) and it has never dragged in the 5 years I have owned the boat. I would have thought that the #3 would be plenty big enough for a Beale 33, especially with 20m chain.

My boat had a #1 when I purchased her, I still happily use this all winter for day tripping. I think I have 20m of 7mm chain.

Make sure you have sinking warp and have it spliced onto your chain.

  6. I'm defiantly going to be rolling and tipping, that way I can do it ad-hoc as time allows, also, spraying the quarter berths would be a nightmare. Another consideration is the Carboline Enamel though I do not know where to purchase it. Id be keen on a test spot. Re flowcoat, I will be painting over single pot varnish in some areas and am unsure of how the polyester will react with it. Ideally I'm looking for a good quality semi gloss enamel (or similar) that sticks to anything and flows out nice. I'm pretty fussy with finishes.

  7. Anyone had any experience with "Epoxy Enamel" as an interior paint? Its readily available from Bunnings etc for a reasonable price as a rust treatment topcoat. Im hoping to find a single pot system that can go straight over my suitably sanded, already in ok condition interior paint. Open to other suggestions.

    Cheers

  8. Interprotect worked for me, I waited a day and a half to sand it and this was half a day too long, it was a painful long boarding job. The problem is you will not know that it hasnt worked untill after the top coat is on and the boat has seen some sunshine.

  9. Hi Winter, I sanded as much #3 off as I could, then YRA over the top. For the most part it has worked fine, there is the odd bit smaller than a finger nail that didnt stick. This could have been down to prep though (but I was pretty particular about the prep). If you are going over #3 and the area you are painting is easy to sand and doesnt have too many coves, rounds etc then I would highly recommend 80grit, then interprotect, then 120 grit then undercoat of choice then top coat. I had some dramas with the hull and had to scrape off my finished paint and start again using interprotect as the substrate then YRA. Not fun.

I have heard good things about 545, the country was out of stock of 545 when I was doing my boat or I would have used it and saved a whole lot of sanding as it works as primer and undercoat.

All worth it in the end, over a year later and it looks like it was painted yesterday.

    I hope this helps.

  10. Does any one have any hacks for super simple warm water off the engine? Im not talking hot steamy shower, I'm thinking just rinsing salt off the kids at the end of the day, out in the cockpit, while the engine is running. There must be some clever, simple systems out there. I have a 2gm20F.

  11. Ok, Thanks Island time, I didnt realise that the VSR didnt care which battery had reached voltage before engaging. I will test mine out with a standard battery charger, if it works I can rewire so the VSR is upstream of the battery switches.

    Cheers.

  12. Hi All,

Just a simple question, is there any reason why I couldn't run a VSR off my solar panel so that when the house bank is charged the solar starts charging the start battery? I already have a VSR running off my alternator that charges the start battery primarily, then the house. It is a simple system on a 9m yacht, 50w solar panel.

Thanks heaps, any advice deeply appreciated.
