  1. Sounds like you might be better looking new then............

There will always be a market, which will adjust up and down on a macro perspective depending underlying financial conditions / exchange rates etc.

I don't see the worldwide prices of yachts having much influence on

A new 34' yacht is going to cost $200k++ so there will always be a market for second hand boats relative to that market. Farr 1020 at $80-$100k, Stewart 34 at $40-$60k and heading down.

Sure guys that have their boat on the market for years clearly don't want to meet the market.

But while ever boats sell, there is a market. Buyers that don't want to pay the market can enjoy sailing with others or watching from the breakwater.

  2. For me the key to a second hand cheaper (

So you might see an Elliott 7.9 (as mentioned above) for $20k but you get what you pay for. I know when I purchased my E7.9 as a project and then spent 2 years completely rebuilding her at significant time and $$, there is no way I would want to go back to owning a shitter. Thats why you might see an Elliott 7.9 for $20k and one for $50k+. By the time youve spent $15k on a new motor, $10k on paint, $10k on sails, $5k on electrics ++++ it adds up.

So my tip is to buy the boat in the best condition that you can afford.

  3. Hi. It is an A10-017

    17" Party Size.

Takes the disposable propane canisters. Can buy LPG set up to attach to your gas bottle. However I prefer to have seperate systems so I can have the BBQ running while also using the cooker / oven.

Box is damaged where it has been sitting in the shed, but otherwise everything else is brand new.

    Cheers

    Andrew

  4. I've got a 16x11 2 blade folding prop and hub kit to suit a Volvo 120s saildrive. Good working order $300

Also a Party Size Magma BBQ (worth $500+) and Rod Holder mount for the BBQ (worth $100+). Both New / Never Used. Few years Old. $350 for both.

    PM me if you're interested.

  5. Probably prenty of Gemini owners (and the designer) that would disagree squid. Quite a few used as live aboards and plenty have crossed the pacific and atlantic. Agreed they are more a hunter type (and are now actually built by hunter!) but they seem to have proven themselves quite well. You get what you pay for.

  6. The Gemini 105Mc (10.5M length) is a pretty smart looking cat with standing room in the saloon at a reasonable price - over 1,000 built. Fits into a standard 12M slip. Have gone around the world.

Buy in in the US using the strong NZD and sail her downwind home.

  7. To run a 70' yacht you would want a pretty good budget and experience. The costs of buying any gear to replace on a 70' would generally be significantly (read multiples) more than a 40'. The loads on the rig are much higher and therefore you would need to know what you are doing.

Although cruising yacht sizes have been getting progressively bigger are sail handling technology improves the typical cruising yacht is still around the 40' +/- and it is that size for a reason - good combination of interior volume, easy enough for a couple to handle and can be managed within a reasonable budget.

The purchase price is the easy bit - don't forget the ongoing costs which if this yacht hasn't had a refit and needs upgrading could be significant (possibly even the purchase price again). I would be nervous about spending my entire budget on the purchase price, unless it is new or has had a recent refit and doesn't need any work!) Yachts take twice as long and cost twice as much to repair as you would imagine!

Having said that - great atitude - get out there and do it!
