My 830 was faster upwind at anchor than when underway
-
For Blue/yellow, I guess you use one of each colour?
Cant recall seeing any two tone flags at burnsco...
-
Go the SR!
Well done
-
Cut the rig off, minimise the loss.
Exactly

Man that sucks.
No chance of towing her?
-
Well done guys
Wish the conditions were more 930’esque so we could have stuck it out with you

After a wet banging and crashing first night we found ourselves further up the fleet than we thought a tender old 930 should be but as the sun came up the wind started to drop off for us approaching the hen and chicks. Shook the reef out and progressively worked our way up through headsails until we were left flopping about south of the Poor Knights at midday with Moving Violation for company. We were treated to seeing a lot of the bigger boats painfully squeaking around the Knights before the lightest breeze filtered in from the NW and we managed to crawl around at about 3kts just as darkness approached.
Made our 7pm schedule happy to be leading 930 at that point with Hotdogger tucked away behind and Start Me Up still stuck at the Hen by the looks of it.
There followed a couple of hours of watching boats doing 360’s and trying every possible trimming scenario to get some meaningful progress towards Cuvier, then some rudimentary maths concerning likeliness of making prizegiving/drinks based on the forecast, then the very real possibility of having to beat back to Weiti against a smoking Northerly afterwards, and decided to pull the pin to be back for Mother’s Day.
Autohelm on, Beanbag and a bottle of port for comfort and we nonstopped it overnight, starting about 9:45pm Friday and getting home at 11:30 this morning.
Interesting fact, at 5.5kts over ground and 3/4 throttle a Mercury 9.9 can push a 930 from East of the Poor Knights to the Weiti yacht club on 24 litres of fuel. Pretty slippery!

Ran the tape over the genny tonight. Seems to have shrunk off season;

Just dragged a carbon class jib out of the stack that came with Mean Streak. She’s covered in rust and was built way back by Giddens but most of the hanks unsiezed with a bit of CRC - reckon she’s a race winner!

Trying my hardest not to believe any of the forecasting models ????

I also had a great run with Vivid on my 830, in the Weiti and cleaning regularly for racing.
I’ve just applied the same to the 930, by airless.
2 full coats all over and a third on the waterline, bow sections and foils.
Went back in a month ago, haven’t cleaned yet but a thin brown coat of slime evident top 100mm. Wipes clean with ease so hopefully will slide off when we motor out for the Enduro????

Still got both these sails, open to reasonable offers!

I’ll have to have a borrow of my missus facepalm... what page?
-
Maybe I’m destined to be a single handed racer?

Want to enter the above on my Ross 930 Mean Streak but short 3 crew.
Ideally a bowperson would be great!
Dinghy sailors would find themselves at home on this lively boat...
Reliability and temperament more important than experience.
Racing every second Sunday starting mid May.

I was told to expect nothing but Gybes on the 250 - have I been duped?
-
Got to say
Bruce and the boys at Brin Wilson are a cut above.
Happy to have had them hold my hand throughout this one
-
Thanks guys
Entered SSANZ Anzac Longhaul with the other 930 tragics y

Decided I didn’t like the location of a certain rock to the south of Rangi Light during a single handed race a while back, so shifted it a bit.
Seeing as how Murray Ross was renowned for designing overbuilt heavy shitters I continued to sail it for a month with the kids on board before finally deciding to pull her out and have a look. What followed was three weeks on the hard whilst the good folk at Brin Wilson’s removed and reattached the dangly bit and I took the opportunity to scrape 20 years worth of Antifoul back to the Gelcoat and start the underbelly process properly.
Even with all the gear on, old Antifoul shards make a great chemical peel, so my face now has taken in a youthful appearance whilst my relationship with the wife and the bank account have aged badly.
I gave the rudder a bit more balance while I was at it and the results have been pleasing despite the thing weighing at least 50kg.
Funny side note- since relaunching the depth sounder has stopped working ????
