  1. Jon thats all good to read , I'll have a look at some other 1020s and see what / how they have addressed the Holding Tank issues. As you say, maybe judicious use of bowl may be a way around the requirements. However l would like to have one fitted and electric toilet also
  2. Hahahhaha ! Yes and at least the fridge / freezer is all good. We aren't going away very far , and not for long but I do wish to have a holding Tank. Most likely we will make a temp solution to get us going. We are new to 1020 yachts , have had a 727 many years ago and loved it , so am hoping 1020 will be as nice to sail. 5 summers if not having a yacht , I have to take small steps to get family keen and confident again. You will see us motoring / motor sailing a lot !
  3. Marin Heiro that "temp" solution to install a bulkhead mount tank may get us through for the next 4-6 weeks of hols. Thank you for the idea , I may look at that this week , unless I can find someone avail to do a tidy job , who is able to on next 12 days. We only purchase the boat 3 days ago and we have a few small jobs to also attend to. IE Oven / cooker doesn't work ...
  4. Thanks , yes I am rather hopeful , but it's worth asking. Cheers for the god advice about hise install. And hopefully we will get a tank hidden away under forward V berth
  5. We ended up buying a Farr 1020, and are very pleased with our new yacht, despite it being the smaller " brother" to a 1220 !
  6. I am hopeful of finding someone to fit a new toilet ( electric) and holding tank to my yacht sometime in the next 3-4 weeks. Any recommendations would be great, yacht is in Westhaven, 33' long. 021 817 671 ( apologies if this is the incorrect forum / discussion area )
  7. Have just put an advert on TM, for 1/4 share $20,000
  8. I'm looking for 1/4 share partner to buy into a 1020 of mine. It's based in Akl. The share is valued at aporox $20k Best if you PM me or text me please and I can call you back and then I can discuss it in more detail. Cheers 021 817 671 Keith
  9. Sure will be great to meet up on the water one day Andrew, we are likely to be the 1220 with hardly any sails up initially! Small kids have to get used to the sailing again, as well as us oldies! Do you know of any problems with "osmosis" on 1220s ? We obviously are having a Survey carried out, and are nervous of course as we have nil experience or knowledge about it.
  10. Cheers , we are very happy , although until survey result I guess we are still not 100%. By Labour Weekend we should be over the line so to speak !
  11. Well we have had our offer accepted, so subject to survey results being okay, we will be new owners of a 1220 by months end. We inspected / offered on 3 different 1220s , and will be very happy to rediscover the beauty of Gulf cruising after a 4 year "gap". I'm sure we will no doubt find many things to repair / replace on a nearly 30yo yacht, but that is part of the experience.
  12. Well I did go along with a friend. I was shocked that only ONE salesperson engaged with us and showed us on board their range of yachts. She was selling Bavarias , but NO one at Hanse , Beneteau , Dufour etc even talked to us, even though we spent a lot of time looking at these yachts eyeing them up and chatting about them to ourselves. I certainly agree with the comment about the Sales staff too busy with their colleagues to engage with public. We are two 50 yo , males , about to buy a 40' yacht , cash buyers (no boat to sell). We are looking at 2nd hand yachts , but the new ones appeal too
  13. Any one on forum have any opinions on the show ? Is it worth spending $18 to attend or does it not have the pulling power it used to ? I see there are plenty of yachts on display, no doubt an over abundance of fizz boats and launches.

Look forward to seeing the yacht soon in Akl, cheers Beau, looks sharp !
  15. Great replies thanks guys , especially DUTY FREE, that's sounds like a really good mod. And thanks for the offer of sailing , unfortunately I have my little girl turning 5 this weekend so big family time and party etc. grrrr. . . . I have been self employed in Import / Distribution for 20+ years , and am also disappointed with NZD direction lately , but we will weather this and keep going fine. I'm really certain that a 1220 will be fine for us , even if they're 30 years old ish. We have cash , no boat to sell , so am hoping the old analogy " money talks , and cash shouts " may help at
  16. That's great to hear how well those Farr yachts performed in solo race , however I think my intentions are solely cruising. I've heard from some fellow sailors to check for Osmosis of course , and whether the hull liner / grid ( I assuming keel / mast attachment ) is sound as they had a tendency to separate ? We are getting a hull survey prior to purchase , that's lined up in a few weeks time. Hopefully see you on the water this summer ! Cheers
  17. Thanks ISLAND TIME, that sounds like a great 15 years of sailing. These comments and opinions are greatly appreciated, as I am not in a position to spend $250-350K on a "newer" import 40' yacht, hence the desire to have a nice NZ built 1220. When I sailed a 1220 back in 1994, it was a Round Waiheke Race with BBYC , and I recall it being a nice 15knt breeze, which we obviously had on all points of sail. Boat performed well, and at that time in 1994 I owned a Young 11, was in my late 20s and never imagined I would need a family cruiser one day ! Myrecent yacht was a Davidson 28, altho
  18. Thanks, and yes cockpit is "cosy", my kids are 5,6,11, so we will be okay for a few years I hope ! Speed under sail is probably not the biggest concern, we may use the motor quite a bit !
  19. I'm in the market for a family yacht, to cruise around Hauraki Gulf, and have my mind almost made up on a Farr 1220, there safes for sale at present in Akl Would love to know what ( if any ) vices / bad points you may be keen to share about this design yacht please. I have sailed one in a 60nm race about 20 years ago , and was suitably impressed. 20 years later I find myself with wife and 3 children and want to enjoy cruising the Gulf and Northland coast. Cheers
