Monototone and Truxton both transom hung. Both Golden Pond and Monotone were in the Solo Division too.
-
New race record according to official FB site. Beau Geste 12 mins and 44 seconds quicker than the old Voda/Frank Racing.
-
And what's happened to Toy Story? Back at Bucks according to the tracker?
-
looking forward to the finishing photos
Yeah sorry for the delay - finish photos on the SSANZ Facebook page now. And a selection of photos from the series will be added to the SSANZ website too. If anyone wants higher res copies of their photos PM me or email splashprincess@xtra.co.nz.

I looked up last years coastal and saw 144 entries.
And 117 finishers for 2018 Coastal.
So we have 172 entries now for Saturday, wohoo! We'll be live streaming the start again (and maybe some finishes too if people are interested) and if you'd like photos/video of your boat make sure you sail past the committee boat or the RIBs out on the water.
Don't forget to update your crew changes on the SSANZ website if you've had someone bail on you, or you've bumped them for a "rockstar".
See you all on the startline!!

Yes please for me.

Competitors - be in to win some loot from Lewmar. Use #lewmartripleseries in all your posts on Facebook and Instagram throughout the Lewmar Triple Series and you're in to win some fantastic prizes from our sponsor. See you out on the start line.

You should always listen carefully at the briefing, but Clipper is right - amendment that I didn't see on the website:
https://www.ssanz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Amendment1-030719.pdf
Full sailing instructions: https://www.ssanz.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/SSANZ-2019-Triple-Series-NorSi-20062019.pdf
And no you don't get an extra 10 minutes Phil - your start is still 0930.
-
First start 0900, last start multihull division 0930.
-
Can't wait! We'll be live streaming the starts on the SSANZ Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ssanz.inc/ so if you're not one of the 147 boats entered you can watch the
carnageaction on the start line from the comfort of home. If you don't do Facebook it is a public page so you shouldn't need a log in or you can view it from the SSANZ website plug in on the home page: https://www.ssanz.co.nz/Then you can view progress throughout the race with the PredictWind Tracker, again found on the SSANZ website or download the app.

Pretty sure it was Ran Tan, back in its early Wellington Days, because two guys I know were on board delivering it at the time.
Yes you are correct - previous owner and quite a few years ago.
-
Entries open 1900 hours tonight: https://www.ssanz.co.nz/round-north-island-2020/
Also announced at RNZ prizegiving on Friday night - next date for RNZ is 2025.

For those suffering from withdrawal symptoms now that the 2019 race is over, here's a compilation of clips from the original race in 1990.
-
And don't forget the Chains Ropes and Anchors Enduro (run in May this year) is a great qualifier for the RNI. Details here: https://www.ssanz.co.nz/enduro/ and entries open soon. Different courses and a finish at the Bottom End this year.

I think the weather only works from desktop, not from the app.
click the overlays/map toggle to get either predictwind or windy data.

So what's everyone up to down there for the next few days?
Trying to stay warm!!!!
Seriously we have loads of activities lined up with the locals - a visit to the school, as well as helping the kids build and race cardboard boats, prizegiving and BBQ at the Community Centre (did someone mention blue cod and crayfish???) The local garage has offered up cars for us all to use to see a bit more of the island, as well as the Krakatoa crew rented electric bikes to explore for a few hours.
A few sail repairs are required so Skinner the sailmaker is busy with that and Bart from NZ Rigging arrives shortly to start more work.
Some of the race management team and Coppelia shore crew managed to get out fishing before the fleet arrived and got a great feed of blue cod.
Once again the Stewart Island hospitality has been amazing - the leg trophy is proudly on display in the Four Square, each boat has a local host that's looking after them (including providing a bed for some) and this amazing part of the country has been so welcoming. If it wasn't so cold I'd be happy to stay here!!!

So we have Titanium, Motorboat 11, Krakatoa, Coppelia and Galeforce all now safely moored in the bay with Arbitare and Katana still to come. Competitors have been great so far and have all finished in daylight ... so far.
And yes it is freezing down here - our SSANZ Baltic PFD jackets are coming in very handy to keep that cold wind out.
Now it's time for the prod replacement and sail repairs to start.

Looking light for the midday start here in Mangonui - maybe they'll get an afternoon sea breeze to see them out. We'll be live streaming the start again on Facebook - for those that don't like FB you can watch it from the SSANZ website.
Will also let you know how the hangovers are this morning or whether #getoutofdodgebeforeOMA meant a quiet night on Motorboat 11....

We're in the final countdown with less than a week to go now. Safety inspections, race briefing and crew farewell all happening this week then race starts from Westhaven tower 1400 hrs Saturday. Who's coming out to see the start? We'll be live streaming on Facebook (and viewable on ssanz.co.nz) for those that can't make it in person.
-
Well the countdown is now on for the 7 boats entered in the 2019 SSANZ Round New Zealand race. Race start is Saturday February 16 and hopefully by now the to-do lists for the boats are getting smaller as preparations are well under way.
Competitors in this the third edition of RNZ are:
Krakatoa, Pogo 40
Gale Force, Elliott 1050
Coppelia, Farr 38
Katana, Sunfast 3600
Arbitare, Farr 38
Motorboat 11, Elliott 10.5
Titanium, Thompson 38
In the crews we have brother versus brother - Sam Tucker on Gale Force, and Josh Tucker on Motorboat 11 as well as the Elliott 10.5 versus Elliott 1050. Then we have father versus son with Ken Ormandy on Gale Force and his dad Dave Ormandy on Arbitare, which should all make for good stories at the stop overs. On that note we have Chris Skinner returning for another lap of NZ this time on Titanium - will it still be "reach, reach - big boat wins"??? Our other returning competitors are Rob Croft and Sally Garrett on Coppelia - suckers for punishment, slow learners or just great supporters of shorthanded racing?
Check out the new SSANZ website - boat and crew profiles will be added in the next few weeks, as well as other news stories in the lead up to the start. We'll also post here in this thread to keep all the armchair admirals up to date.

Way way back in the day the very first Easterly 30 did the 1978 Solo Tasman but was rolled, dismasted and abandoned by skipper John Jury after Tropical Cyclone Hal. It was salvaged and still lives on in Oz I believe. Tough boats!
-
Another shot of the Newick St Laurence here in Wellington.
Edit - well I would attach it if adding photos to this site was easier!!!

Meanwhile in a different part of the world recently I happened to take a snap of a racy looking boat heading out for a sail from Sausalito, California. When I made it back home I showed it to He-who-knows-more-about-boats, who agreed with me that it looks very "Elliot-iish" and a search using the Sail number of the YNZ site confirms it is indeed an Elliot 1050 Basic Instinct. Anyone know anything about how it's in the States?

Woopsy...wrong race..i meant this to do with Melbourne Osaka.
Melbourne Osaka had multiple race starts over a number of days, I guess in the hope that they all reach the finish line at a similar time. An unscheduled, race management dictated pit stop to escape Cyclone Iris may impact that though...

This isn't just me seeing things - is Motorboat II in front of Miss Scarlet on the tracker?
