Most of the diaphragm pumps are self priming. It would be very unusual not to have one of these as the freshwater pump.
That’s what I’d have thought but definitely doesn’t. Would it because it’s worn out? I’m not super keen on tossing out the old just to experiment.

We’ve just bought a Farrier 41. Beautiful boat but the systems on board are a head ache.
Biggest issue is regularly losing fresh water because of a stupid purge switch from a caravan HW system, (which I may ask about in another thread.)
While we have solved the purge switch issue, the tanks are small (45l) and we easily run out.
We have a water maker but the tanks are both below the FW pump by about 1m. So once the pump has lost its prime we can’t get the water back in use.
So, is there a reliable FW pump which would self prime when we top up the tanks from the water maker.?
The alternative I’m considering is installing a manual vacuum pump in the line but I’d prefer a simpler solution. -

Not me but older daughter, her first solo album is due out in the new year but she has released this cover as a teaser. Check out the home made instruments and a quick glimpse of BPs galley.
Just spotted this and enjoyed it immensely. Thanks BP and oldest. Is one of my favourites.
Have added Fathom to my Spotify.- 1

CD that’s very sad to hear. I am sure that you miss him terribly.
looks like he had great friends who want to honour him.

Just had a survey yesterday. Jon Jones Whangarei used a wooden tap hammer (I checked before he started). He was Listening for sound changes not looking for deflection.
-
Have signed up for it. Now for survey. Anyone know the best approach/person in Whangarei?

Kevin, and we hope that the Op went well. All the best for 2022.

I'm looking at a Farrier 41 listed on TM: https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/boats-marine/yachts/multihull/listing/3405488575.
Does anyone have any ideas on the good points/bad points on this design?
Usual story, has to be sailed by the two of us (Husband and wife - hitting 60). Just thinking 41 feet might be a lot of boat to handle.
Cheers

Anybody get to watch the Sydney edition today?
Spectacular crash at the start of race 3 by Sir Ben didn’t see Nathan Outeridge (Japan) on a port/Starboard and completely sheared the bow of Japan off. Literally “front fell off”.
Won’t mention the dismal (poor, awful, embarrassing) showing of TNZ but Phil Robertson is doing very well.
The coverage is getting better and it’s worth watching on YouTube when it gets uploaded.

I don’t have one (any more) but your comment reminds me that I once had a Drummond Sailing dinghy I got to teach the kids to sail in. I sold it to a guy somewhere in Northland who had a collection of them so they could have regattas over Christmas with family and friends. Cool idea I thought.

I don't agree. Lots of vaccines have effectiveness around 50%.
The flu vaccine for example: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/vaccines-work/vaccineeffect.htm
Or the recently approved malaria vaccine: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02755-5
The covid vaccine remains 93% effective against serious illness after 6 months.
Stopping the spread of covid requires more than just vaccines. Hence the continuing restrictions and recommendations for mask wearing.
Both of you are right. The study is focused on Infections. Ie returning a positive test. It’s been clear from the beginning that vaccine won’t prevent picking up the virus. It is aimed at improving the immune response to prevent hospitalization.
the study concludes this most clearly under the section headed “Discussion” :
“Effectiveness against hospital admissions in all age groups did not wane over the duration of the study. These findings are consistent with preliminary reports from the Israel Ministry of Health and US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing reductions in effectiveness of BNT162b2 against infections 5 months or longer after being fully vaccinated, but consistently high estimates against COVID-19-related hospital admissions and severe disease up until July, 2021.”

Results of the Burton Sails Great Race are now online. Thanks Ballystick for a great summary.

that’s a bugger. There was a lot of water in our cockpit too.

Have PB and BT signed up, thought someone said they havent. Guns for hire?
Judging by their showings in the sail GP their star might be waning?

I prefer the boat building/restorations over the pleasure seekers.
Parlay’s been fun during the rebuild and bulkhead issue.
Ross in Aus is a good watch.SV Seeker is interesting.
Acorn to Arabella has been good but I think they are now slowing down to make the thrill last longer.
Leo rebuilding the Tally Ho has been very informative.I’ve learned heaps that I didn’t know about how boats go together from watching these.

Hmm. Looks ominous. If GD does own TNZ then the Govt really shouldn’t give him $100m. Mind you they are giving similar amount to Amazon to film LOTR here on the basis that money=jobs.
I’m still disappointed.
-
I’m disappointed as I feel that TNZ means it represents me. As do the All Blacks, Black ferns etc etc.
But the reality is that sport is a business and the AB’s etc are owned by the Rugby Union not NZ. TNZ is owned by…? Surely NZYS? Mystery is what the governance structure is. There’s no doubt that overseas teams are owned by their backers (Ernesto, Larry etc). But TNZ? It’s sponsored by Emirates not owned by them?

Have to agree there BK.
This vid just released to show comparison to a Leopard speaks volumes about low build and design quality of the Lagoon.thinking about 80Tonne of load (if that’s the right number) primarily supported by a single sheet of ply is astonishing. The beam structure of the Leopard seems more appropriate.

not sure if anyone been keeping up with this issue:
Facebook page for owners really needs to be checked if you own one or know some one who does.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/902269000568556/
There are three you tube channels with the problem. they’re hurricane damaged ones so won’t get help from the Company but it looks like a build/design issue. -

Thanks for the tip. I’m in the shop looking at the 6HP Yamaha 4 Stoke 2014- $1600. It’s in great condition, but up against a brand new Suzuki I’m not sure which to go for.
Make sure you discuss the prop. Not all props get the boat moving backwards. We put a high thrust on our Yammy 9.9 and it transformed it.
-
This guy has dozens of great videos testing of different t anchors in differing conditions and veering. Ploughs rate very lowly and my experience is that a plough won’t reset once the boat is moving, which his video evidence confirms
Watching them all will take a while.

Sounds intriguing. Any ideas on where to get something like that?
