We are happy to present a new sponsor for the RYC Singlehanded Series - thanks to Vining Marine! We are working on the promotion package, so check back soon for more details, be sure to check in with Vining's new Westhaven Office to buy or sell your boat.

  2. Very perceptive - On the run after Haystack we should have put the kite up instead of the gennaker,  alas, too lazy to change it, and we wer having fun when the puffs rolled through.

I'm guessing we gave John Barleycorn a fright, screaming out of left (right) field into the Shearer Rock mark on SB after the gybe! They paid us back by promptly rolling us on the start of the beat, though we returned the favor later, twice forcing them to tack away, and I can't imagine we are in their good graces at the moment.

Then lost gains made on beat when we tried the genny again after Emu Pt, which went poorly and ended up being a bad call and had to recover.

Minus a couple of bad gennaker-related decisions we might have had a chance at MV, darn quick 7.9 that :)

Looking at the PW tracker, Revolution Blues lost ground to Moving Violation, by sailing too high to Shearer Rock.

RB closed the gap by going into Waakalabubu bay, but MV took off in the lighter conditions after Emu point.

  3. FLC: I'll be missing the 100 (boat might still go out, up in the air at the moment) so looking forward to the 50 for the next 3-way owner-driver Ross 830 battle, set your alarm clock :)

Ummmm... Who would have thought that a Yamaha 8 at full tit would only make 3 knots SOG from the Weiti to northern leading into a 30 knot southerly haha
We were on the back foot from minute 1, to add insult to injury the bloody multis seemed to revel in the cracked sheet fetch off the line! Tough luck to Neil on the post race inspection RIB whom missed the 8 day old fluff in my Bellybutton.... Top marks to the SSANZ crew for their safety focus!

Check it out, like the page, come sailing with us!

  5. Amendment for start times now out:

    http://richmondyc.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/Amendment-No-3-2015-2016.pdf

Have a look at the amendment, but basically, SoloIQ follows the RYC divisions and will have two starts:

SoloIQ Div A (open), start with RYC Gulf Series Div C:

RYC Gulf Series Race 5,  Div C Keelers Open, flag is Black, start at 1820 hours

SoloIQ Div B (no extras) start with RYC Gulf Series Div E:

RYC Gulf Series Race 5,  DIv E No Extras, Flag is Black/White, start at 1805 hours

SoloIQ prizegiving 10AM on the temporarily-power-tri party barge (Impreza, parked in Bon Accord Harbour).

And remember to support the host club by showing up to the prizegiving for the Gulf Series race as well - 4:30 Saturday at Mansionhouse Bay.

  6. Along with the SoloIQ NOR, the RYC "Gulf Series" NOR and GSI's pertain for this race:

    http://richmondyc.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015-16-RYC-Gulf-Series-NOR.pdf

Hence the cutoff is 8AM Saturday. Seriously.  :)

This race is being started by RNZYS out at Orekei, so please make sure you are aware of the times as per the notice. There will be a lot of boats on the start line and so we ask that you are extra cautious about maneuvering prior to the start to avoid problems. Finish boat will be Taipan (a 12m launch parked with a flashing light off of Momona Pt, Kawau - if you are finishing well after midnight and no patrol boat is on station please take your own time on passing Momona.)

As always, the final words on the race are in the NORs and SIs and relevant amendments.

Along those lines, please keep a look out for an amendment that will set the start times - this are being worked out presently and will be on the RYC notice board and online on the RYC notices page prior to the race.

    http://richmondyc.org.nz/racing/notices/

And a last note - the SoloIQ prizegiving will be planned for 10AM Saturday on Impreza (a mastless trimaran owned by Taboo skipper Charlie, and also where the party is happening as you arrive into Kawau. Fri night / Sat morning)

All SoloIQ racers are also entered into the RYC Gulf series race - which has another prizegiving (aren't you all lucky!) on Saturday afternoon (4:30pm-ish) and will most likely be held under the big fig tree in Mansionhouse Bay - BBQ food provided, but feel free to bring your own as well.

Looking forward to a great weekend. Contact me on PM if you have any questions.

  7. Friday party: Word is you need to look for a large, mast-free trimaran with a bunch of singleminded types aboard, likely in Bon Accord (Schoolhouse?) Changed, can you verify?

Such a great weekend down at Waiheke. Real Deal will be on the line for Kawau. Looking light again so it will be nice not to be out there in the heat of the day. Where will party be? (must remember to park on less of a heel this time)

  8. Thanks man, and I will be looking around for a bottle of rum :)

You can get plastic or alloy mast track. A mate just scored some so I'll ask him on Tuesday. Yeap just rivet it onto a alloy mast or you can glue it using flash Sika like goops.

I've already laid a pile of carbon this AM and will be playing with more once it cools down in a hour nor 2. I'll whip you up a grunty bit of tube with lots of Unis. Easy peasy.

Nice start last Friday by the way, I started to reach for the X flag but you were good, just.

  9. I'm in need of a short section of thick walled carbon or fibreglass tube that needs to work in compression (for a through-bow bobstay). Needs to be ~20cm long and have an ID of 8mm. Wall thickness? Dunno...

Also, where can I source a mast track? I don't want a spendy system, just something that works and doesn't break the bank. KM told me used to rivet these suckers to Ross masts, but I think he used up all of the old track in the process :)

Both are for my R830, standard rig.

  10. I have four lead/acid batteries I would like to offload - two old boat batteries (~150 A-hr) and two car batteries, all 12V.

Can anyone help me with the process in NZ?

I'd like to get a bit of cash for the big boat batteries, but in the end would just like them recycled without having to pay. And wish to get it done soon.

Now, onto the e-waste... please tell me there is a one-stop shop for this sort of thing...

    Thx - B

  11. Dam you all!   The Shapeshifter won't be ready for the first weekend of this series.... somebody lend me a Ross Boat!

If I can ensure the insurance for the weekend... I'll be out of the country for the first race.

And if you have a "large American" costume then maybe I can get a SoloIQ series result as well!

  12. FLC - you would be welcome to come view the setup on RevoBlues - could be improved upon but I've cruised it all around the coast (BOI to Barrier to Mercs) for up to two weeks at a time using a convertible racing/cruising setup.

    PM me if you're keen.

Don't know where you will be racing from but we have two 830s in Richmond now and more would be most welcome. Might be time to organise a nationals!

  13. Finally getting the prod on RB. It's way too big so should be interesting. Might rebrand the Ross 830 as the Hoss 1030.

Before I mortgage the children - anyone kind enough to lend me their gennaker to test? My luff is about 10 m straight line, so perhaps 11mm luff length gennaker? Any recommendations?

Also, high clewed genakker / Fr0 thingy...?

Without permission I'll just try them out, not race 'em, and so will treat them well and fix any resultant damage - just want to see what to go for. Will consider buying the right sail, even straight out if there is an offer, and that offer is enticing!
