  1. Thanks for that. Do I remember discussion here a while ago but I get nothing on the search. Something about what was good or not

Have a Navman Tracker 5600, can I connect that?

  2. Can you not hacksaw the protruding bit off. Yachting Monthly found galv slightly stronger and less brittle than SS. Sorry that was chain they spoke of. Galv tested shackles had the highest strength but variable results."ss shackles proved to be consistently stronger than equivalent galv steel ones" So doesn't look like much difference

  3. Dont like to comment but maritime incidents do need discussing. He lost forestay (rigged halyard so not a prob I would have thought), engine overheating (hadn't yet checked it thoroughly) , and steering jammed. So got taken off. Very experienced elder couple, capable and boat well stocked. And no insurance. Engine down worried them that no charging " cant power bilge pumps" A steel boat. Did they check steering quadrant?. Maybe decision making when old not so good? Maybe a lot of money at home? Curious.

  4. This was Daily Freight. Rang some couriers but they said no to DG. Then DF have described it "accidentally " as a beaker. Think this may be the difference between a trucker and a courier. Lesson learnt. Tho wouldn't fancy any OSH fine.

  5. Bought at Burnsco. ( also bought a tin of green that just would not stir out properly that Altex replaced- then see a tin of green on Bornsco's specials table)

  6. 3 coats of #5 applied in Feb- about $600. Now some 2" long barnacles in the shade near stern!! (Lyttelton) How bloody useless is Altex. Failed to get back to me today. Never again!

  7. While still on subject; could I put finger over tank vent and pump the Whale and build bit of pressure up and clear the line out, and have bubbles coming out to say hose cleared out? The tank bottom is just above the WL.

  8. Custom built Elliot. Extra carbon on bow. Sailing the ice free channels. Would have thought that restricted your freedom and that would mean lots of motoring to windward if that was where your channel lay. Guess its all above board.

  9. Just reading a book and he is sailing thru the ice and glaciers way up North, and claiming he isn't using the motor. He averaging about 170m a day.No mention of ever being becalmed and little mention of anything on the nose. I dont know but it all sounds a bit far fetched?

  10. Have seen somewhere the manufacturer doesn't recommend using heat.

BP, have changed to using a whale gusher pump so not expecting any blockage.

Hope this all works, should do.

It will be turn on valve and fill bowl ( all below WL) then pump to empty

  11. Thanks, thats the story- keep those ideas coming. I dont believe there is not a solution. The Warehouse are promoting a fancy tape ( good for underwater and all) for 40$ or 50$. Question of whats best.? Altex suggested an impervious paint ? used under bathroom tiles.
