  1. Well I sit with feet up on a Friday looking forward to weekend , a ding sound from the iPad , e mail from gulf harbour , Marina fees increase for water and compliance issues to all Marina uses $21.00 an day $76.00 a month what next , I am sick of this bu,,Sh,,t , I would hardly use water. , , so that makes the avarage person renting a 10.6 to $630 an month or $7665 pa unbelievable I need to go for a walk

  2. Pack of mongrels who do they think they are , this Is police state tactics , they have nothing else to do ,except pick on a sailor learning the ropes his way , they way most of us did , unbelievable , I don't think I will renew my cg fees this time if that's what they do with it ,

  3. Check mt law no person can board a vessel without the captains consent they have to explain there intent and get his consent , if they say have you under size fish on board and you say no I have not , and they board with out your consent and find no undersized fish then you can take it further

  4. Well interesting reading well done , I learnt a few things , to , I imagine the young fellow is well on his way enjoying his boat , catching the odd fish for tea , loving the life style , meeting people where he stops , gaining experence the best way for sailing an learning about his boat what more does a guy want, but I bet he gives Auckland a miss and heads north well done

  5. Agree with Island time and others , it's up to the skipper , the blue coats respond till the skipper makes contact , if they don't a drama could be happening , my old dad used to say help another boatie in distress as you would want in the same , it's gone in place of user payes systerm or charge up , . To be helped by coastguard the first words out of the mouths are you a paid member , usually say it when you are struggling with a mast over the side trying to teather it to the boat to save your self in 30 kts it , but you the skipper have the responsibility to set his boat up to handle easily and have the nesserary gear for a mishap , bolt cutters , fire extinguishers , vhf, mobile ph , first aid kit life jackets , pumps , and it goes on

  6. The guy had the brains to anchor while weather looked suspect , as for vhf radios , mobile phone . If it's not turned on while cruising then tough his call , I turn my own mob off some times under way , eperb well we don't know if he has one , but that's his choice , unless he presses the button , there's no problem , skeds would had been a good idear each day even a tex , to a friend in his case , as for SAR , that does cost time and money , there call to search , there time , there cost , as a they say good training , but they had to say , wet wont be charging anyone , it's a great world , we boaties have these things for , space , the love of , piece and quiet , to be with nature, it's getting harder even on the water

  7. Thank god they are history , I had one as a young bloke , it used to tip over when you pushed into the water befor boarding it , my mate had to sit at the mast till I got in then the fun started , out on the tripeeze wires we would go ,a wagstaf I think was the designer. Deep in the entry to boyant up front , but the new models are flyers fun for the young

  8. Hi Navman equipment , who , or that are they now Is there a sales or , repares , depo here , or have we been dumped less the cash again , good gear , but my gps is showing a water looking mark around one of the edges , still works ,

  9. Color plus Auckland ,ask for tred grip they will put onto the guy in the store , mat , ask for a quote per ltr he couriers next day if they. Don't have the shade you want , in my case a light grey , don't take it to resene they said it's a sackable offence to tint other paint , don't know why I don't work there , but had it tinted there before , get it tinted and in you go ,I put three coats on 17 years ago , thick , and it's still there needing a freshen up Alls good

  10. With the Alado furler my existing jib is Hank to wire fix ,, the foot is down on deck say 6 inches above will I need the foot trimmed to compansate the drum , I see guys are using kiwi slide replace Hank's then will one if leaving on full time need the cover strip a fixed to the gib , or some just take it off and bag it thanks

  11. Well 17 years ago ados made a product called deck tred , water based ,thick , rubber based good stuff priced right , today 17 years later my decks need a freshen up , ados stopped making the product , so left my in deep water , I did not want to remove the old paint as it had not peeled , just looked faded , tired , I looked into the other art brush type non skids , and they go flat after a time , and I don't think in 30 knots at 25 deg heal they would hold you to the deck doing sail change , so after some weeks of search I found tred grip , a&ni coatings or colorplus direct Penrose , ,,brilliant,, 12 colours or tint it wich I am , goes straight over the old surface small hairy roller ,water based , easy to apply , tennis courts , stairs , steps , house decks , pools , soft , good on bare feet and looks good , about the same texture as 100 grit sand paper to look at and if you want it off just peel and pull try it , price ,$ 44.00 ish per ltr need 3 coats to look even , but recoating over old. Just one coat iam sold again

  12. Well . I see it this way , I have owned yachts for nearly 45 years of different makes , I have watched makes I would love to own , but could no afford them , Chico, cav , Stewart , etc all were up in the $40 s to 50 ish back then , I remember I was paying $115 a month marina , now the Marina is $560 a month, those boats are , Chico , start at $20 k , the cav , $20 k the Stewart , now is from $35 k up . I have the best boat for me at 60 years now ,I have put thousands of hours into making it perfect , where i can with my hands , and I love ever minuite of it and using it ,,but it's harder to keep with the costs, I find it embarrassing to tell people , they all question the costs ,the marina fees put people off buying , so want is high for boats but costs stop it all happening , I see boats listed and priced right sit for year or so ,my latest quote to haul out for anti foul , $260 plus to the cradle , $40 plus a day , no spray , no car at the site , no dust , and on it goes . Then there's $400 antifouling Then the prop $170 ,and that's if nothing is untoward happens then back in the water, ,,back to paying the $6700 Marina , that never gets cleaned , the same ropes since I moved on to it, , 20 years ago , then some fool walks past in blue uniform gazing hard into a clip board and pen , does not have the desentsay to say hi when you are paying his wages ,it's the costs killing boat sales in this country , in my view , wich is derived from asking people would you like to own a boat , and you say it's a buyers market , and a sellers loss , well , it's the costs , buy a boat tonight. ,go home tell the wife , then tell her it's going to cost min $6000 to keep it this year plus all land based costs , and you will be living on the next night , I can afford to own my boat , and pay for it , as the years a numbered , enjoy it as we'll I am the caretaker till she needs another one thanks I am vented now
