Clear public support for a hardstand at The Landing
Ōrākei Local Board asked for feedback on their decision to close the hardstand at The
Landing and the response from ratepayers is NO.
Results of the Ōrākei Local Board public consultaton on retenton of the hardstand at Okahu
Bay shows a clear majority (64%) support retenton of a short stay haul out and hardstand
facility for boat cleaning and/or ant-foul applicaton.
There were 1,558 respondents of which 617 were Ōrākei residents. The response shows the
hardstand is a regional issue and the Ōrākei Local Board does not have a mandate for
    closure.

  2. "where has the RAYC gone"

Are we serious, perhaps you should do some research such as why the areas set aside for boat storage are now a restaurant and restaurant storage.  Maybe that's why the RAYC wants some boat storage now.

  3. AYBA has been fighting this since the beginning.  Plenty submitted against it but were they all counted?

Yes the give a little page is low for what we need, glad that makes some happy and perhaps its the constant negative comments that don't help either.

We have also received support from many direct into the AYBA account, but are still short.

The council needs money,  so it shuts down a business that was giving it an income and now has to come up with funds to pay a third party for security, ramp cleaning, pontoon maintenance (already parts missing), fresh water costs (although less now),  maintenance on the sewer pumps, carpark and ramp sweeping, Flotsam removal.

I have a list of over 30 boats that now may have nowhere to haul-out.  Should you be one send me a PM.

Yes this is political and some of the things that have come to light are concerning.  AYBA is hoping to continue this fight not only because of the landing but for the future so access to the water is maintained,  is your local ramp or club safe? Do you want Hobsonville to also become a residential village?

So far the AYBA has prevented the "mooring Dolphins" (or wharf) being placed in Ak harbour, Filling Rakino's Bays with moorings, Marine farms in the Firth, Marine Farming in the Bay of Islands.

  4. The AYBA will be having a meeting soon i believe as to how far it is to pursue these cases and how many it will fight as this is totally dependent on funds.

Here's an update and more can be read here https://www.ayba.org.nz/blog/post/103082/april-2023-update/

Prior to the Super City there were 8 Councils in the Auckland Region and over-seeing our coastline and regional parks was the Auckland Regional Council. Today there are 21 Local Boards making local decisions for their area and there is no co-ordinated Regional Plan for the protection of our coastal and marine environment.

In the Auckland Council’s own words:
“Space in Coastal Locations are increasingly attractive to alternative development!”

Such a policy threatens many of the Club and other facilities currently on “Desirable Coastal Land”! Auckland’s Unitary Plan endorses “Intensification” – another threat.

This is why the AYBA and the Auckland Marina Users Assn. Inc. are demanding a Regional Plan – Not just of the haul-out facilities but of all our Coastal resources for the ongoing and future access to our greatest recreational facility – the Harbour & Gulf – and for the future well-being of our marine environment and the well-being of a great part of our population who finds sanctuary by and on the sea.

  5. Thanks to those of you who have donated.

While support from the boating fraternity is poor in numbers others are still fighting.

For those interested here's where they presented to ACC,  watch from around 18.25

Not sure, but the same groups are involved in both. So maybe if there is any left over from Bayswater, it will be used for Okahu.

    You are correct Elly

Both these cases are part of the AYBA & AMUA drive for a Strategic Plan of all our Coastal Resourses - Launching ramps, haul-outs, public access, club facilities, fore shore reserves, etc. Future Proofing the ongoing access to our harbours and Gulf for all Aucklanders to be able to enjoy the Coastal and Marine environment in perpetuity!  They have filed an appeal against the development at Bayswater and costs are already rising.  The Landing has also employed legal counsel.  Bayswater (followed closely by The Landing) are the first two.  The case against Bayswater is also relevant to The Landing and others in Auckland to be improved not removed.

I just hope more will support one or both so they can continue.

  7. And here is a comment (unofficial) i heard through the grapevine.  One of the reasons the give a little page was started is to gauge support from the wider boating community.  So if a few donate a bit there is not much support and perhaps they need to reassess what they are spending.  If thousands (which there are) donated a little it would show support and help send the message.

This is about pushing for a commitment from council to have a plan that existing marine facilities and regional assets that allow marine users to access the water are kept and improved on whether it be for rowing clubs, trailer boats, haul outs or those in marinas.

One squeaky wheel alone is not going to be enough.

Why not petition the council along the lines of sports fields are upgraded etc for free ramps are our sports field. Once again wake up and realise we are a minority sport and viewed as elite.

Good on you for trying but I will not be financially supporting already paying to use AK ramps etc

They have written to most councilors (and a couple are on our side) along with MP's etc.  And yes i pay to but i would like them to remain.

Why werent they there at the start?? Oh sh*t this might effect us or we might loose members.Yeah right

They were, if they were not they couldn't appeal.  Perhaps more should offer to help the few that are fighting for us all.

Where was AYBA at the start?? suddenly realised to loose members and $$. give a little page is still pending as to whether it meets requirements.

They have been involved from the start and the page is pending waiting for the secretary to reply with id etc,  must of been a holiday yesterday.

  11. It's not over yet,  the AYBA (Auckland Yacht and Boating Association) has joined the fight along with the support of the AMUA (Auckland Marina users Association inc.).

The first is to appeal Bayswater as by doing so this will also help the case for The Landing and other sites.

So please consider making a donation here and perhaps add "crew.org" after your first name.

  12. An update, the council withdrew its support for Bayswater but the commissioner’s granted consent, figure that out! There are many comments on this page about improving or installing boat-ramps and access to the water. Unfortunately many Ak Councilors do not share your view!
The good news is that the AYBA (Auckland Yacht and Boating Association) has joined the fight along with the support of the AMUA (Auckland Marina users Association inc.). While the first fight is at Bayswater this will also provide evidence for other battles they are currently fighting. These include the hardstand at Okahu Bay and Little Shoal Bay, while watching Pine Harbour and Hobsonville Marinas and more than likely your boat ramp. This fight is not just about Bayswater. This is about access to the water for all marine users and our grandchildren. Other councils are also watching what is happening and being allowed so be warned. Both the AYBA and the AMUA are run by volunteers, unpaid fighting for your access to the water so let’s support them.
If everyone  donated $5-$10 (or more:-))we would have a fighting chance.
Thanks to one generous supporter the appeal was able to be filed as they picked up the tab but this is only the beginning.
Remember the AYBA are fighting to get access to the water to remain and be improved for all users through-out AK.
Donations here; (and perhaps add Crew.org after your first name)
As Terry has mentioned this is the AYBA's plan, to push for an Auckland wide plan so access to the water remains.
    We need your help!

  13. I hope every one is looking at what is proposed and that there will be objections and lots of.

"associated car parking and marine-related commercial activities will be upgraded"  all existing marine related activities are gone and only retail type industries will possibly be in the new development.  The boat ramp will now be unusable for most if not all and trailer parks are basically gone.  Unless it's a jet ski as that's about all that will fit.

While the majority of current users are power boats this also rules out the kids training with 470's and there coach boats which are often down there.

Here's a petition which would be great if more signed,  if you do add a comment as well if possible.

Another option is to support the local berth holders association which is looking at challenging.

  14. Wasn't surprised that this has surfaced again but disappointing is what comes to mind along with the attitude of the marina association, especially within the Auckland area.

Have had several dealings with marina's, boat owners, and inspectors regarding this topic including communicating with Brian Leyland also mentioned.  Several marina's and inspectors were very keen to get a working group together to discuss and come up with a system that would suit all marina's within NZ and above all be safe. But not from Auckland it seems.

I'm sure we can remember one marina in particular and inspector in Ak insisted that it was a requirement that all boats with a temporary lead such as the Ebox had to have an EWOF.  How wrong were they and this is stated in the letter from P Morfee.  And remember the arguments about a 16A-10A lead also mentioned in this letter.

A marina can require a client (boat) to meet certain requirements and this is good but having an EWOF will not solve this problem.  Anyone can still buy some cheap crap appliance and leave it unattended causing a fire.  Simple and a fact about boaties.

Previous comments on here "started burning through anodes at an alarming rate" are not surprising and i would suggest that it won't be long before we have a "hot marina" if not already.  This will effect boats not only connected to the grid!  When looking at this several year ago one i contacted with a lot of experience with marine wiring replied -

"One concern with people being forced into having a permanent installation on their boat, is that they will endeavour to do so as cheaply as possible and may satisfy the electrical regulations, but without proper knowledge of galvanic corrosion and galvanic isolators, run the very real risk of rapid deterioration of hull, skin fittings, prop shafts etc. This can happen to any boat with any metal in contact with the water. Direct connection with the shore earth provides a parallel path for any currents generated anywhere in the shore earthing system to exit to earth through the vessels vulnerable metalwork.   The user may not be electrocuted but that wouldn’t count for much if he drowns when his boat sinks."

So in summary i would recommend caution to anyone recommending all metal parts need to be bonded to the boat's earth.

I also understand and can appreciate the problems that can occur within marinas, what i don't understand is where they are getting there information from.

  15. There was an ad / EOI for a Manager for the summer by a new entity in Saturday's Herald.

I haven't caught up who and on what terms did the deal with RNZYS.

Hopefully it will lead to a favourable result for all parties and users

Yep there is hope and then all going well we'll see how many actually join up and support the new club or just simply want to tie up get free water and use the bog.

  16. Watched it last night and have to say surprised it's taken so long to be mentioned here

    Thought they were lucky

Lucky the weather didn't go bad

    Lucky no one was injured

Lucky they didn't need a raft

Lucky their chart plotter stayed working

  17. Doesn't work for me most of the time either, unless you have plenty of time to downsize the photo and then muck around trying to get the physical size to be small enough.

Tried a few times of late, and if you have a few to post for example a race well.....

But then it's probably me as well.
