  1. Cars do not have enough area to make an appreciable difference to the range.

example I get 7.5 km per KWH a 250 watt panel will product 1kwh if in good direct sun light in 4 hours and a 250 watt panel is approx. 1.6m x 1m

So realistically you would get 10 km of range per day if you covered your car

  2. One thing I would add to wheels post is I would use a neutral cure silicone that has no anti fungal added, sealant suitable for fish tanks, acetoxy silicones can on certain metals can cause corrosion

  3. Wheels, I have had a copy of your downloaded chart for some time, trying to figure out consumption of any new boat we buy.

    But, don't understand it.

My present boat has a Perkins Parama M30 3 cyl diesel engine - 29.5hp at 3600rpm. I cruise at 2000rpm and from the power curves the engine is delivering 18hp at that rpm. From the chart I should be burning 3 litres/hour. In reality I am burning about 1.8 litres/hour.is

Your motor is able to produce 18 hp at 2000 rpm that would burn 3 l/hour but your prop is not using 18 hp

  4. Thanks for you reply's

    A small solar panel?

I think that is probably best, just a bit of a nuisance having to take them in with winds regularly over gale force

Did you mean " unattended" ?

    Auto correct

  5. I am very confused about all of this, I have asked the marina but they don't know and could not tell me what code they are working to ! They just gave me a name of an electrician I could employ to tell me what I need.

All I want is to have a battery charger on from time to time to top up the batteries, so it would be unattained.

They are telling me I need to wire the boat up with an RCD, I would have thought the RCD on the pedestal should be protecting the lead and hard wiring the boat up is just duplication of this
