  1. Higher Ground is a fully turboed one I think.

Be careful of that Ross 35, its often used for sheep and cattle storage in rainy weather according to the meteorologists.

  2. I was going to ask the same question. Do you get a certain number of $ per "like" or something?

Nope, but you can buy 10,000 'Likes' for about US$150 if you want to get really serious about self promotion

  3. Its the North Shore for petes-sake, no-one in really cares.

The best part of North Shore is the motorway that allows you to steam though at 110kph without needing to mix with the white trash that populates the place.

Concrete the camping ground and turn it into a burnout pad for the boy racers that usually head over the bridge on the weekends.

  4. Went to edit my previous post to add something relevant to the thread but for some reason it wouldn't let me. So here is the bit I was trying to add:

Am presently in the process of exploring options for living aboard at any marina in NZ in a place where there might be employment opportunities. Initial indications are that finding a job will be easier than finding a berth at which it is permissible to live aboard!!!!!(Gulf Harbour excluded)

Take a look at Westpark marina in West Auckland, quite a few liveaboards out there and a regular ferry to the CBD.

    BTW, great thread!!

  5. Please does anyone know if the drain hose from the bottom of the gas locker has to be a special type of hose at all? Thanks

Im not sure it matters. Whatever the stuff was i grabbed from the local chandlery passed Cat 3. I think it was the same stuff i used for potable water just a bit larger.

  6.

Bluudy hell! Wasnt she on the market for about $250 - 300k a few years back? I seem to recall when i was shopping for a reasonble 40+fter she was on the market at that price. I think back then Urban Cowboy? (Ross 40 in Tga) was on the market for $150k , but in need of major work.

I had a look at her when the Marshall deal looked like it would fall through. They wanted 198K then. Very tidy (and fast) boat with not much to do that I could see...

It was about 06 that i was shopping, hence it was a while ago. I subsequently heard she sold for $85K back then, and from what your saying, someone has spent some coin on her since then.

I was gutted when i heard she'd sold for 85 because it would have been a great project at $85, but not so at $150.

From memory, i think the old owner had some businees/debt issues and creditors were involved with the sale at that time. Hence it wasnt 'clean', which scared me a little.

Good to hear shes looking pretty again

  7. If I hadn't bought the Marshall there's another hell deal on trade me right now that is even better value: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=466856866

  8. Does anyone have any suggestions for good site to order gear from overseas?

As ive just mentioned to AC on techtalk, about 12-18 months ago i bought some raymarine gear from www.marinedeal.com and saved 30+%. They even followed up with a phone call to ensure everything arrived and i was happy! Very impressed i was.

I dont know how they compare on other bits.

  9. I agree ab. Every second hand boat will sell, if the price is right. If an owner isnt really motivated to sell, then there is no need to reduce the price to meet the market.

Complaining about the list prices of second hand boats is fruitless unless you understand the vendors motivation, or lack of it.

FWIW, i bought overseas and paid half what the owner was wanting.

  10. CCYC members get a $175 lift, blast and splash deal at Westpark. I think a haul-out, storage for a week and splash is around $500 - $600. No problems with living on board

Im living in Sydney at present with my boat back in AKL as the holiday crash pad. I looked at bringing her over here, but marina costs etc are right up there. Rushcutters Bay is about NZD$800-900 per week and the water nazis wont let you do any maintanence on your boat while its in the water.

The cruising is far better in NZ as well

  11. years later a spa pool manufacturer from napier built another one out of the same mould but never paid david a cent. it has been seen chartering in the caribean but is grossly overweight as the guy never approached david for the layup.

Ahhh - that explains the one i used to ogle as a kid sitting outside the Napier Sailing Club on a swing mouring back in the '80's. Never did see it sail.

  12. The units are at home, but il try to remember to get the details etc tonight.

Basically the units are about half the size of a cigarette packet. You program them (via your ‘puter) and they have an inbuilt GPS unit.

The one that is going into my TV (I’ve had burglar problems) will be programmed with a latitude and longditude ‘fence’. Once the unit moves outside that ‘fence’, it will start txting your mobile with updated lat and long at frequencies you pre programme. You can them plug the lat and long into google earth or something similar to find its physical location.

One of the issues ive had is that they are powered by a recharagble battery that only lasts a few days, hence for fixed use it needs a power supply hardwired. The dudes at Tisco seem to think it’ll be straight forward. I could probably do it myself, but I don’t have the patience or time for such things.

    Stay tuned.

  13. DR I make a point never to get involved in a marital dispute - there are no winners. Except maybe the bird with the free cat!!! :silent:

Seriously though, I feel for ya man. (No, not you DR, the guy with the missing cat.) My ma just had a similar thing happen to her. She and the Mr parted, he was gonna buy her out and then... OH! The boat has disappeared. WTF??? My only adviceould be to invest in some beefed up security. What are those tracking devices worth? The ones that text your cellphone if your boat moves? A lot, I guess.

$140 + a sim card. Cheap as chips.

    Ive just bought 3.

    1 for the boat.

    1 for the car

1 for the TV - Tiscos will hard wire it in for about $200.
