Based on current information, the initial assessment is that the earthquake is unlikely to have caused a tsunami that will pose a threat to New Zealand. It would appear a tsunami has been generated. Based on expected travel times we may see, note something early tomorrow morning around our coast (unusual or stronger than normal tides/currents ?). Link to post Share on other sites

Currents are likely to be strongest in harbours and estuaries. Unusual currents should be expected for all of Thursday. People on beaches or boats should take additional care.
