Tim C 23
Tim, I don't have to take the halyard off. It's normally left on for ocean crossings, + I have steps up the rig, so its no big deal really.... No Problem. I was just making the point to others who think it is okay to lash a genoa to the top of a roller furler, and entirely rely on it to work. You do need to be able to lower the sail without going up the rig. A large trimaran had this set-up a couple of years ago that highlighted the problem...
Island Time 1,246
No worries, but I think that most cruisers don't take the headsails off much anyway - and in heavy weather, once it's partly rolled, you cannot get it down without unrolling it all the way anyway..... Which is then more difficult/dangerous. Everything is a compromise.....
