Youngest Gibbo 0
Hi. This is my first post since joining Crew.org. and am seeking some advice from Beneteau 473 owners on their preference on sea anchors or Jordan series drogues for addressing severe weather. My preference is the Drogue but with the 473's ample stern it may cause difficulties. Have any forum members had experience streaming a Drogue in anger from a 473? We are delivering our 473 to NZ via the Atlantic and Pacific oceans early next year.
Island Time 1,235
Welcome aboard! IMO either will work fine. In really serious weather (60 knots and over) I prefer the parachute, esp short handed. Use good chafe protection. Others will disagree. I've never used either on a Bene 473. I think you'll be lucky to find anyone who has = conditions requiring these things are best avoided! If possible, Id carry both. The anchor if you want to stop, the drogue if it suits you to run with the weather.
Black Panther 1,586
I agree with what IT says except i prefer the drogue. The wide stern may help with more buoyancy.
