We are searching for the girl in this photograph with Tracy Edwards, who came to wave Maiden into Auckland in January 1990, as they won the 3rd leg of the Whitbread in their division. Do you recognise her or know someone who came to the arrival and may know who she is? When Tracy arrives to Auckland later this month, she would love to meet her again! Let’s make this reunion possible! 30 years ago, Maiden, skippered by Tracy Edwards and her inspirational all-female crew, arrived in Auckland to the cheers and celebrations of 14,000 people lining the waterfront. Maiden was the first boat in their division to finish the 3rd leg of the Whitbread from Fremantle to Auckland, and was continuing to prove all the critics wrong, who said a crew of women would never get further than halfway through the first leg. Last time, Maiden had one New Zealander onboard- Auckland sailor and rigger Amanda Swan. This time, Maiden also has legendary Kiwi sailor Sharon Ferris-Choat co-skippering the leg with Australian Wendy Tuck! Maiden is currently arriving into the Viaduct Basin on the morning of Saturday, 4th of May, and we’d love to see you there.
