Leopard seals and underwater drones looking for fanworm

Recommended Posts

Just listened to an underwater drone manufacturer on RNZ, he stated the reason for developing the uwd technology is because of the aggression of Aucklands resident Leopard seal towards divers diving on recreational and commercial shipping. apparently originally it was only curious now acting like it is looking for a feed. According to the interviewee it has attempted to attack  swimming dogs several times. Safe around Westhaven? I think not!!

With regard to Med fanworm he said it is a lost battle with no possibility of containing it, it has been in Lyttleton and Auckland since 2008, someone needs to tell the regional councils!!

Apparently the main concern of MPI is that it may attach to the Mussell farm mussell lines and compete for the available food, being a long tube with the filter fan at the end they think it will access the food before it gets to the mussells, threatening the viability of mussell farming.
