rgoat 0
Hi, I'm hoping someone may be able to help, please? We have a chico 40 Blue horizons, and the steering is seized. I can not identify the system. It's not Lewmar, Edison, Whitlock, or Yachting Specialities. It's a 1984 model. The seizure it on the shaft bearings, but I can't get it apart and can't find a diagram. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tim.
Island Time 1,113
OK, looks like a grubscrew or friction pin in the bronze gear. Unscrew it or punch it out. Looks like you've taken the bolt out of the clamp? Try to spread the to of the clamp sufficiently to be larger than the surrounding lip. Look in the hole at the top of the shaft in the alloy casting - that can have a grub screw as well, locating into a groove in the shaft. Seized how - can't rotate, or cant withdraw shaft? Yacht Myling 0
Might be along shot but I think i had something similar years back but from memory the issue was a pin lock or something on my hydraulic pump connected to the wheel chain drive below the pedestal. I lifted the pin and move it and freed up? yours may be all chain drive but if connected to hydraulics check the pump is free to move?
Farina 2
We have a Chico 42 with exactly the same pedestal. The pedestal is an Edison 402? Contact the guys at So-Pac. there are some diagrams on the internet. Just a sanity check, is your autopilot turned off or disconnected?
