lightweight trailer sailers

Recommended Posts

I'm wanting to buy a lightweight trailer sailer and live in palmerston north so will have to travel reasonable distances any time i want to sail it.

I have a 2L 2004 nissan primera with a max tow weight of 500kg braked and unbraked.

What options do I have to to be able to drive it long distances safely?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as i'm fairly new to sailing.

A Young 6 is nice and light and your vehicle should tow it fine (ours weighed 500kg when trailered). When we brought ours we were living in Palmy and took it north to Taupo and South to the Marlborough Sounds towed behind a 2L 2WD vehicle. Only problem is there aren't many Young 6s around.

Friends of our had an Aquarius 22 which was much heavier and their 2L vehicle had a short wheel base and really struggled towing it on the hills.

stop giving him ideas squid

my guess is that anything like an elliott or noelex is gonna be alot heavier than a young or farr. maybe even a stratus 747 :?:

Thanks for the suggestions. I think a young 6 would probably be ideal. I think an e5.9 may be a little bit heavy as info online say they're meant to be 600kg, plus if you add the trailer it'll be 750kg+
