YNZ choices for Olympic classes

Yes I do realise the base boat is the race boat. The Pros comment was due to most of them pretty much immediately upgrading the cordage, spare sails, masts and the like, along with adding the turbo kit. Mind you that isn't Laser only specific.

Chatting last night with the brains trust (that term used the same way you call a 7ft tall 200kg dude Tiny) and the discussion turned to a 'box rule' boat as being one option. A simple X x Y x Zmts box with limited other restrictions, a bit like the 18fters back a wee ways. While that may seem a bit iffy at first thought regarding development of boats and the like, why knot? Other sports spend moonbeams on their equipment and development, much of which is customised to the individual/s using it. Bikes, sleds, shoes, swimming apparel, even underwear. There is a huge input into some of the other sports due to equipment development.

So why knot have one yachting event where the equipment is highly adjustable? It would be damn interesting to see, be adjustable to the crew using it, highly likely to be the most exciting 'class' for TV viewers, help grow the sport, open the Olympics up to a huge number of people who have zero show currently and more good stuff.

Cost isn't a biggie. If the McLaren and Ferrari F1 teams are now building push bikes it does show the money is there.

For those who don't like any 'boat input' there are the other events in those boring boats they can use and/or watch.

In the vast majority of the real world boat designers and builders do have a massive impact on the sport and results, so why don't and can't they also in the Olympics? The AC has shown us often the sailors themselves are reasonably irrelevant, if you have a good design slash build team.
