Gregandsue 0
Hi can anyone suggest a solution to the following: we have a very good kubota 24 hp engine but the variable prop/no transmission system is a dog. It has failed on 2 occasions when it has failed to go into either fwd or reverse despite being hauled out on the first occasion and everything that could have done to sort the problem . I am now looking at putting in an inline gearbox with a 2 to 1 reduction with a fixed or other type prop to give us a no problem solution. Any ideas would be welcome. Atom Ant 0
I run a Kubota 22 hp engine with a simple gearbox running a 2:1 in forward and reverse. Its then mated to a prop shaft via two universal joints. It then runs through a thrust bearing, through a seal to the outside world. Simple, easy and inexpensive. Now I bet you're going to ask me what sort of gearbox it is - and I cant remember right now! I could look on Sunday but that is the first chance I'm going to have to get to the boat. Gregandsue 0
Well done that man sounds just what we need let me know what box you used. Our yacht is a 34 ft kauri Keeler with a blade rudder if that makes a difference.
Atom Ant 0
Better still, you're welcome to come up & take a look at it if you wish. The prop is a 2 blade folding, so all in all, a simple setup that always works.
