Canadian Prisoners

I pulled this from CF

Sorry this is probably a newbie question and I did try and search the boards - how long can Canadian cruisers stay out of Canada? Is there a limit to the amount of time you are out of the country?

How do people cruise for a couple of years?

At first I laughed, but look at some of the replies

You lose your provincial health care in most provinces if you are not in country for 6 months of the year.

If you are going to carry yacht insurance you'll need to arrange for coverage in the area you'll be cruising I believe - which is to say the coverage I have requires that.

I also suspect there is an 186 day issue with Revenue Canada, worth checking out.

There is some strange stuff with NZ law too Squid. I am not 100% sure enough to be able to comment as fact. Hopefully someone else can. But I think there are issues with Super and aligability for Social welfare and things along those lines if you have been out of the country for a certain span of time.
