grant 40
After doing the Evans Bay winter series I think we need more power downwind. Reaching is fine but running is a touch dull and its a bit sad watching the others put up spinnakers. I'm looking at something second hand but have never sized one up before and not sure how I go about that. I've taken a couple of measurements; hopefully there are relevant. From the end of the bowsprit to the mast is near enough to 2m. From the deck to the halyard block 4.1m How do I relate these measurements (or what else do i need to measure) to work out what size will fit? Also if these number suggest a size any suggestion on a class that has something around that size? thanks
Guest
Hi Grant, Based on those measurements I would look at either a sunburst or a 420/470 spinnaker. Old R class kites maybe an option too
Guest Saturday Night Special
With a mast height That low a sunburst kite is about it .Cherub Jav 470 420 kites are all of a similar size but you dont have enough hoist An old symetrical cherub kite had a hoist of about 15'6" off the deck a jav was higher a 470 is about the same as a cherub 420 may be ok but not sure. grant 40
thanks I've had a look at both the sunburst and 420 class rules now, it seems the 420 kite is taller (about 300mm over my hoist) and narrower than the sunnie, so sunburst it is next step will be try and find one to have a go with ta
