Open transom conversions - Respect the Loads

So No Worries (Ross 930 mod) has a 250 by 100mm slot cut in it for the tiller to poke through. During the Coastal we went bang while travelling at high speed. The transom had cracked the laminate from a point along the opening. With the opening up of transoms - it may pay to ensure you or your boatbuilder has thought about the loads and suitable reinforcing.

This is an issue caused by people wanting too much from to little .The guys who sail over powered dinghy's will understand the importance of a stuctural knee or brace from the top gudgeon to the keel preferably a knee as this distributes the load and ties the whole area together .Although not practable on all boats I would have thought also an I beam in place of this on the R930 but I was horified at some of the wish and hope of some of these boats to keep the transom hung rudder on board
