flynn 0
So whats the story with the withdrawal of tG? That has to be a really hard call for Geoff after the effort he has put into getting this race underway.
PeteG 13
The Guarantee sat on a reef just before the finish line, while dropping a gennaker and a bit preoccupied. The rudder was damaged, hence the withdrawal. We are all really disappointed for Geoff and Phil. Warm and sunny here still. Very light breeze starting to fill in. All crews well fed and rearing to get underway. The thought of a southerly once out the heads seems to be a good motivation!
flynn 0
thats a real shame.. all the best to the rest

splashprincess 17
And they're off heading to Napier! Wedge has problems and has suspended racing for now to fix things. Nothing too serious. Boats tacking their way out of the harbour in the light southerly, Revs leading the way. Big thanks to the Akaroa locals for taking us out to see then off.
PeteG 13
Just back in from following the boats out through the Heads. Wedgetail resumed racing by 1345 and was out through the Heads and chasing hard -only a couple of miles behind. Revs led followed by Blackout, Am Meer, Redline, Montego Bay, Khamsin and Bacchante. Beautiful conditions 10 to 15knot southerly just starting to freshen up. Boats just cracking off as they headed out likely to get some colourful fun sails out soon. With any luck it might hold in for 18-24hrs and give the fleet a good shunt north. We are off to Napier in the morning, after a fantastic stopover. Hope some northern boats come down next time to enjoy a majical part of NZ with some great locals. Cheers Pete
PeteG 13
Wedgetail had some autopilot issues, and just took a bit of time to get sorted. That was the reason for their brief suspension of racing just after the start.
PeteG 13
Tonights sched positions now plotted, some interesting reading for you. Montego Bay reported highest speed of 15 knots - must be a record for that boat, and sustained speeds of 12 knots. Even sent through video evidence which we will try to load when better internet access. Wedgetail seems to have caught up from their deficit from the start.
PeteG 13
Go Redline! Good to see our Nelson boys caning it in the Ross 930.
PeteG 13
Been on the road, so just plotting sked now. Will be on RPNYC site in few minutes. Redline/Revs/Wedgetail have covered 100 miles in last 12 hours. Now line abreast out north of Kaikoura with about 30 miles back to others. Blackout looking to be making a cunning move out to the east -should help them on Friday. Likely to be going lighter, and changing into the North East today. Text from Wedgetail too, that after bad start out of Akaroa have caught up and had a great night with jibtop. (they are 4 miles out to sea from Revs) Nothing heard from Montego Bay 3 at sked (on satphone) Cheers Pete

TimB 7
Redline is having a blinder leg going by the Friday 0700 report, 3rd behind Revs and Wedgetail. Go Stu & Geoff, keep up the good work. TB
PeteG 13
Morning from a calm and sunny Napier. Khamsin have reported in that pretty bumpy night and windy. Had to put a reef in. Now lighter westerly and bacon was cooking. At the sked, both Revs and Wedgetail have stretched out their lead, with Wedge having 45 miles to the finish. Blackout and Am Meer are back a bit and both out to the east -and look to have put a pretty good move on the group in shore. Distances sailed since last sked Wedgetail 66m, Revs 56m, Redline 45m, Blackout 50m, Am Meer 56m, Bacchante 37m, Khamsin 36m, Montego Bay 32m. Race Officer pretty confident of winning Race Management sweepstake for first boat finishing 1421hrs!
splashprincess 17
Wedgetail round Cape Kidnappers and about an hour from the finish, currently doing about 9 knots. Race officer's sweepstake looking pretty good
