grant 40
from another forum, interesting idea.... There was a 5 horse engine, black with green logo "Lehr" on it and it says clearly on the cowling, "PROPANE." A propane outboard? Could it be true? Well it is true. Here is their site http://golehr.com/lehr-marine/ They make a 2.5, 5, and 9.9 hp model. Hmmmm. Looks very interesting. The two smaller ones can take the 16oz screw-in propane cylinders that a small grill takes, and have an outlet for an optional external tank. The small tank gives a short amount of time, but a normal propane tank like a backyard grill would take gives 14 hours run time. Sweet! The pro's: - No smelly gasoline - Clean burning - Efficient - Quiet - Appears to be roughly 5 pounds lighter than comparable gas engines. - I would think it would be easier to transport since there is no liquid fuel to smell up your vehicle. Con's: - Propane is dangerous if you get a leak, but to me that is offset by the greater dangers of a gasoline leak - Harder to get at fuel docks??? Maybe. - ????? You tell me. What are other cons? So I am going to read up on propane engines. Do they have similar torque curves for the horsepower? What are your thoughts on these? I like the idea. I watched some videos and they seem to have no issues with getting up and going.
