seaplanes 0
Hello, just a word of background to the Notice to Mariners. What the Harbourmaster states is the law as it applies. You have to combine the notice with our operating procedures, which state that the pilot can only commence take-off or landing if the required area is free of vessels and while on the water, normal right of way rules apply, with a seaplane classed as a “motor boat”. We just concluded a safety review where these rules where mentioned as well and the comment of the reviewer -from memory- was "it is just what any sensible person would do". So if you see the plane in the process of take-off or landing just continue on track, the plane will have vacated the area in a matter of seconds. If you have any further questions, please contact me directly on 09-3901121 or refer to our "sharing the water with seaplanes document", which I attach and which can also be downloaded from our website.
