  1. 5 hours ago, Deep Purple said:

Same, sailed a couple of season on “Mint” as mainsheet hand. They are right in the edge of needing a winched setup in a breeze. I understood they were meant to have wheel steering but ended up mostly with tillers. Great in their day.

I used to sail on Club Fed. She had a winch setup for the mainsheet. Was renamed Northbound after I crewed on her.

  2. Used to be bowman on one in my younger days. Good boats and a lot of fun but can be a bit of a brute in fresh conditions. Not sure about offshore, plenty have done it.

  3. Had a D1-30 installed about 3 years ago. Engine mounts were too soft so had hard mounts fitted. The soft mounts caused excessive vibration with engine damn near jumping off the mounts.  Other than that, no issues.

  4. There have been some very big easterly swells around lately due to depressions off the coast. Quite a lot of damage to Buffalo Beach foreshore. A lot bigger than what is normal.

  5. Probably about 33 years ago we used to get a dozen plus R26's for the Akarana winter series. A lot of us used to go down from BBYC and PYBC.

Also used to have Nationals run by the home of Ravens, the PYBC.

  6. Just been talking to a guy on a 38.5 Lagoon moored to the wharf at Whitianga. The are over here from Brisbane and self isolating around the Mercury Bay area.

The police came out and made contact with them at the beginning of lock down and told them they had to remain in the Mercury Bay area for the duration of lock down.

Says there are a lot worse areas to spend lock down and has quite enjoyed it, thinks the Mercs are stunning.

Hoping to get back across the Tasman in June but doesn't know if that will happen.
