  1. I would seriously consider a Raven 26. Well balanced and ideal first keeler to teach the family how to sail and has as much interior volume as many older 30 footers.

We had one for 13 years. Several trips up north with 2 kids on board. You adapt to the space you have. We would all love bigger boats but reality sets in and financial restraints rear thier ugly head.

  2. Had a ZF V drive from a 25hp isuzu in my Cav 32. Would never have another one. More trouble than it was worth. Had problems with it, took it to the agents who shall remain nameless. Got it back as a straight drive. How's that for technical experties. Couldn't believe my eyes. Needless to say we ended up in court.

    Was this Deans last cup??

You would have to think this will be his last cup.

  4. That must be one of the last ones built. Good cruising boats and well balanced. If you are ever in the Mercury Bay area, let me know. Might be able to catch up.

  5. Thought the lotus 9.2 was the biggest volume 30fter around until having a few beers last week on board a Pogo 30. Man, do the have some interior volume, and fast as well. Very nice boats.

This is our first summer in our Saraband.

We are heading to Port Charles for 5 days in early January so we will hopefully get to the Mercs and perhaps drop into Barrier for a day in one direction or the other.  Its a bit of a shakedown cruise for us as we plan to headup to BOI in early March for a few weeks - a week or so more locally will help us figure out what does and doesn't work.

New water tanks, pump and taps to be fitted yet, and a new boarding ladder at SWMBO's request.  For me, an EPIRB is santa's present.  The autotiller will have to wait.  A bumclean and anitfould is scheduled as well before the end of February (BOI compliant!)

    What are you up to?

Your destinations for early Jan would require your boat to be just as prepared as a trip up to the BOI. Barrier and Mercs are not to be taken lightly. Colville chanel is as bad as anything you will get going north.

  7. When in Samoa during cyclone Val, radio broadcasts where telling everyone to try and preserve human life. That makes you fell a little uneasy. Locals told us it's like the end of the world. They weren't far wrong.
