What make is it?  I have a brand new TMC bowl (from Burnsco) that we no longer need - we only wanted the base and pump mechanism

Thanks, the old toilet was shot for a number of reasons so more than just a bowl required. Owner has bought a tmc to get through xmas holiday but still looking for a lighter option. It's amazing the difference, there's a good 10-12kg between the old one and the new 😞

  2. Removing a toilet in a 930 to replace as the old one as it looks old and gross and needs attention.

Figured it would be easiest just to replace it. But it turns out the old one is super light as it has a plastic bowl and all the new ones we can find are porcelain and much heavier.

Anyone know where to find a new marine loo with a plastic bowl? Or just a plastic bowl?

I've heard talk of carbon ones but can imagine they're moonbeam expensive.

  3. Bit of a slow day out there for Legacy. Had a problem with the #3 when we came to pull it up 15 min before the start that led to filling that 15 min with pulling apart the feeder and ultimately swapping to the #2, rather than getting the kite set up. But started mid fleet and seeing some carnage happening around us and more breeze coming decided to hold off with the kite until we were at the NW corner of waiheke. By then it was blowing even more and we were keeping up nicely with boats around us flying extras, and with the boat being fairly new to us decided it wasn't a day for trying things out and carried on two sailing. Went reasonably nicely to cow and calf, had a few big squalls on the reach up to black rocks which had us put the 2nd reef in the main, then came to the beat.

With the #3 out of commission it became a choice of storm jib or partially furled #2. Went with the #2 and found the boat was comfortable, but probably a knot down on target speed. By durville we were 3nm behind Oddessy & the entertainer, which we roughly then held up to flat rock.

Bit of a conservative rounding of flat in the dark and then another beat as another 30kt squall came through meant we had the jib partially rolled away again. By motuora we were more like 6nm behind Oddessy which gradually stretched out as the breeze died and we ended up drifting in to finish in glassy conditions with help from the tide which was thankfully coming in by then. But we made it around on a fairly breezy day with no breakages and learned some things about the boat so still a good day out.

  4. Googling for young rocket 8.4 rather than just young 8.4 will find you a bunch more info. I think I remember a thread on here, and a similar one on sailing anarchy with various history on these and the other young rockets. You may find some of the specs by trawling through those?

Yep now I think of it I do have two external go’s antennas, one must be for ais.

Andrew (Duty Free) should try a new antenna first then

Yep just installed my b & g ais unit and seem to remember seeing in the manual it won't take GPS info from a plotter/other source, only from its own antenna. Definitely sounds like duty free is worth trying a new antenna.

As a berth holder in Westhaven, bye bye cup, bring on the cyclebridge 👍

So we can add to the randoms wandering westhaven, getting in the way, and generally terroizing the bertholders? You might be one of the few who uses it to get to westhaven, but surely it's going to lead to serious high speed, lycra clad traffic through the boardwalk?

Hey Jon I am waiting on my renewed PHRF to arrive can I enter the race before I get it?

Don't have an answer for your question, but I just renewed my phrf and it was way faster than the ynz website said it might take... only took a day or two.

I'd be keen to learn any history on boat.

A small but interesting piece of info, around 3 or 4 years ago the owner of brass tacks approached Richmond yacht club members looking for a partnership arrangement similar to what young entertainer recently suggested on this forum (share the running costs for use) which was taken up by a group of young Russian friends who came to a few of the club beach bbqs etc. They seemed very enthusiastic and had joined the club via the Friday night learn to sail programme. I remember at one of the club bbqs they flipped their dinghy as they were pretty new at it all.

Strange that none of the other clubs do it in reverse order! 🙄

Kinda ruins the first hour of your race starting first and being slowly rolled by a hundred faster yachts, never sailing below you, giving you dirty air. ☹️

    Coastal classic does.

We held discussions on board OF about when the iron headsail was to be deployed so crew could make it to work in the morning (Monday morning).  “We retire at 1am”... luckily the wind arrived at midnight, the kite went up and we sailed on, claimed monohull line honours and had rum for breakfast.

I phoned the boss on Monday morning at 8am as we were still off whangarei to say I wouldn't be coming in that day.

That Shimmer fella is probably hoping for weather like the Three Kings race a few years ago -when the old kauri Towngirl came through and wupped them on handicap!

I was on that townson. Was a long slow race but we worked pretty hard. It suited us in the end. Iirc the race started Thursday, and prize giving was scheduled for the Sunday night. But at the appointed time I think only Vodafone was finished - the rest of us were still out there.

  12. Personally having often sailed on small boats in this series, I'd vote for small boats starting first. These are long races and not like the ones from other clubs. Everyone has to deal with other boats being around, and it means you finish earlier.

Our Prod is about 2 meters long and has a stainless bobstay so that it is supported without any halyards attached. I'm almost 90kg and can climb out to the very end and it remains supported. I'll post pictures of another prod too...

Looks cool - what does it weigh?
