TV 1 at 7.30 tonight has a segnent on its removal I believe. Close the gate but horse has bolted.

There was a bit more to it than that…becoming a complex story. For me I learnt more about the issues…

  2. Just checking in on the current best practice for washboards . Currently have 2, looking to go to 3 as part of the process. Currently have ply, considering the acrylics for the new ones.

What’s the good, bad an ugly out there ?

  3. Hi

I need to adjust some rig tension. They are Graham screws and on my first attempt they felt very very tight.I was able to loosen for-stay, so the rig tension was relaxed.

Do I just carry on with force to break the lock/binding or fill with WD40 for a couple of weeks an try again?

    Thanks for ideas.

    Hi everyone,

My partner and I have recently been bitten by the yachting bug and have started looking at budget keelers. However, we soon realized we are out of depth when it comes to knowing what to look for.

Our initial goal is to sail around locally, we are based in Tauranga, and perhaps spend a night or two on the water when the weather is nice and we have gotten some experience under our belts. We are both pretty new to the sailing world having only really spent about a few months sailing on and off so far. Based on what some of the members have posted here we are considering a previously loved budget keeler between $10-15K such as an Alan Wright Nova/Tracker or a Salthouse 25. Having said that, my experience with second hand yachts is very limited and I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can give me some advice and/or tips as to what to look/ask for when viewing a potential boat to buy in terms of making sure that it is in a reasonable condition and wont cost an arm and leg two months down the line to fix up because some rusty nut was missed by my ignorance during a viewing.

    Again thanks for any advice!

Don’t over look getting a trailer yacht to learn on…a lot cheaper option for a first boat. Can sail the harbour or nearby Rotorua Lakes. Keep it simple when starting out….

Caulerpa, like most seaweeds, can reproduce by producing eggs and sperm cells which fertilise in the water, and then, obviously, spread for kilometers by tidal currents. Although fragmentation also can spread it, once it is established, the action of a few fragments from anchoring ain't going to make much difference.

Once again, like the over reaction to kauri dieback, decisions made without scientific evidence. We pay all the time for the foreign species brought in by international travelling ships. Does anyone really think that ships are carefully and fully compliant about emptying their ballast tanks where they should?

No they anchor offshore an we send divers out to clean them!

    wonder where the debris goes….?

  6. Looks it has behaved 50% as expected in the design:

Maiwar features 9 separate watertight compartments. Her wooden construction, as well as added foam flotation, make her unsinkable. Due to her cabin shape, she is unstable upside down and therefore able to be righted from inside and outside the cabin.

  7. A team of researchers at GNS Science and Massey University are conducting this study to understand the needs of boat owners or operators. They are looking at "beach and marine tsunami warnings" and "advisories" in New Zealand.

As a yacht owner, your participation in this survey will help inform the processes behind developing future beach and marine tsunami advisories.

    Survey can bee seen here:

There is also the QR code option
