A submarine eruption started near Tonga on August 8 and has produced a reasonable pumice raft that heading of to the west at present. It can be seen on lots of satellite images and is now getting some media attention.
I nice video clip can be seen here:
This article has a nice compilation of the satellite images;

Great to see Ariel III still going well .. started her life on Lake Rotoiti (North Is) as a charter boat.

In 1987 I was working on a Russian research ship between the Kermadec's and Lord Howe ....we had a geographer from Auckland Uni with us who was monitoring/documenting plastics (trawlling a net) floating at sea. We got plastic debris on most every deploy ....

NZGB gazetteer only lists a Pipers Stream (Banks Pen) and Piper Creek, Westland.

Lots of good advice there. A few have mentioned the trailer sailer path, we have a very active trailer yacht squadron based onLake Rotoiti (Rotorua), several of our past members have moved on to keel boats, several have cruised the islands and at least one has sailed around the globe. Others have done RNI and numerous coastal races.
The Rotorua lakes area along with a trailer yacht can be a economic option. Soaking in a lake shore hot spring is hard to beat. Fell free to call by if your ever in the area.

As a ex Ross owner, I found a small sea anchor on the bow stopped a lot of the anchor sailing.

This is an interesting question as I have a Farr940 on a trailer. Used mostly on a lake (freshwater)... it gets wet most every weekend Nov-Apr. It also spends 2-6 weeks in the sea during summer.
After the sea trip the anti foul is a lighter colour (blue) .. ie is ablating. I dont have any growth etc .
After a weekend on the Lake I don't notice a change,after a week I think there is.
Bottom line .. I perceive it is still working ok after 4 years (i've owned for 4 yrs). Not sure when it was applied.

I wonder who got the job .....

We have a panel mounted dual USB from Jaycar like this (https://www.jaycar.co.nz/easy-install-2x2-1a-dual-usb-charging-ports/p/PS2030), wired to 12V system and it works fine with Andriod, IPhone and Ipads. Usually bring cables from car or home.
Runs fine off batteries with out motor.

Its a 2GM20 .. in a Farr 940 (N30) be from the mid 1980's ... boat is kept on a trailer, usually used in fresh water, but gets an annual run in the sea for 2-4 weeks. Its raw water.
There is an inline filter (sea chest) so I can see if there is anything 'large' in the system. Water flow appears to not have changed over the 4 years I've had it, but just feel it should get some attention, while I do the fuel and engine oil/filters.
Any recommended supplier ....

Clearly a PR release, but all the same a useful insight to developments.

Just driving over the bridge there appears to be a floatplane upside down off Westhaven.
