  1. Returning from the Merc's a couple weeks ago we saw 2 leatherback turtles, about 5 miles north of the Tauranga entrance.

Reading up on them it appears they are common off the NZ coast. I've asked around an no one seams to have ever seen one. This has got me thinking how common are they?

Has anyone here seen them while sailing around the coast?

The navionics sonar is crowd sourced and approximated, at 500mm intervals there isn't any certified more accurate plot.  LINZ does not even come close.

The navionics plot will record your depth across your track when connected to your boats sonar.

What do you mean offset for tide height?  The contours displayed are LAT.

Here is our 24hr plot swinging around at anchor in Kirita Bay.   Eventually this will find its way into the navionics crowd sourced data and be available to everyone.

The concept of no 'datum reference ' for the cloud sourced data is a worry. Having a couple of metres of vertical randomness in the data is a concern.

What is the meaning of LAT as used above for how the contours are displayed?

  3. As the title say I need to remove one for a service .... can sorta access it via the side (hatch in qrt berth)  but have very little space to swing any tools. Removing alternator and possibly compressor as well I think I can see it, just need a 500mm extension to reach bolts.

    Any collective experience, wisdom ...

    thanks

ALLAN CIVIL MEMORIAL RACE AND COVID SAFETY

The situation remains fluid as you all know, however we remain committed to holding this event as planned on Saturday 20 November. We have considered date changes and are concerned we will flood the calendar in the New Year with catch up events or the next crisis will stop us holding the event. We can do it now so we are going for it at this time.

    To help keep everyone safe:

    • Scan with your Covid app.

    • We will need you to register all people associated with your boat when you get here.

    • Mask wearing will be left to your discretion, however we advise keeping a 1m distance from people you do not know.

    • We ask you to keep out of the clubroom – ask those serving for anything you need.

    • Those serving food will be masked and wear gloves

    • Food will be served.

    • The on-the-water activities are as expected.

As all boats competing will be from Level 2 areas there should be no significant issues.

If it’s a good breezy day, and all boats are finished by 7 pm, we will have the prize giving on Saturday evening. If not, we will roll over to the Sunday morning as planned.
