Here on a PC, look for the same icon on the mobile version... It does not have a label there, to fit it in.

If using an iPad, the above icon disappears if you have the font size NOT set to 100%

  2. Is there an option so clicking on the thread title takes me to the first unread post rather than page one?

Clicking on the circle achieves this but I sometimes miss!

Good point. There's a supporting bracket on the centreboard gantry but it's not in place in the picture. I'll follow that up. Thanks

Tie downs size could be a bit bigger for some added peace of mind.

    Are you meeting half way?

Yeah, nah. Was always going to go to a hardware store - but thanks KM.

My note on Burnsco was just to let everyone know that you can now order anything, not just essentials, from them. Just can't get it until tuesday.

If colour is not important there are sometimes some strange ones in the clearance cart at my local Bunnings

It is very common to get a invoice with 20 lines of fees, levies, taxes and so on plus one line that is the actual freight cost.

And each line had different tax applicable, a trap for the inexperienced when entering into the accounts system.

For added fun.. the freight forwarder’s GST total used a rounding system that must have been based an rolling a dice.

    You can do that ?

i just make the page bigger by zooming in to read

maybe a bulk order of old man glasses

Yes,  the different sized A’s will change the page size. Some things disappear but will be there at 100%.

    (I found it by accident)

    Thanks for the reply IT

on IPad that’s not showing so have to go back to general and then see what’s highlighted

also will marine only be available?

If you look at the page with expanded text on an iPad, the unread content button disappears.

I view most pages at 115%.. might be a sign I need my eyes checked

  9. Luckily most yachts sail on the river OR offshore, although some may move between locations for a series but will be berthed at the host club for the duration. Lowering the mast is usually only done once on any given day,

The Farr was based at Fremantle for the winter series, the Cole was heading to Rottnest Island for a couple of weeks cruising.

Farr 9.2 (?) fractional rig, much easier to grind back to vertical

The 60' Siska was the biggest I saw with a mast hinge

(Stupid iPad must know I am from down under)

  11. Must be a intelligence test that I have failed miserably, how does that work.

Great boat though a tiller instead of that wheel of fortune would be my pick.

Attach two spinnaker poles to strong points out wide, poles attach to a large ring and a 4:1 (or greater) pulley system which runs aft to a winch.

Use some halyards to take the pressure off the forestay, move forestay to the large ring. Undo the bolts at the front of the hinge and start to lower the mast.

Apply some pressure on the backstay to get the mast moving aft, then let gravity do the rest. Rate of descent is controlled by the winch.

For a higher degree of difficulty all of this is done while motoring on a river shared by large power boats which don't follow the No Wake rules!

  12. Is there a question there?

Whoops pre Xmas idiocy has turned me into one.

Raz it is a interesting situation where a owner cannibalises a low hour build to use the bits I presume like rig sails engine hardware etc to devote to another new build.

The guy must have done the sums but the other Blakewell listed is not that far north of that asking price and it’s ready to rock & roll.

This one has the hinge for lowering the mast to get under bridges. Very useful feature for Perth.

  13. Thread drift alert....

Knowing how to balance the helm is a great tool, especially when the auto pilot is not playing the game.

A couple of years ago I did a delivery of an old wooden clunker from Batemans Bay to Wollongong

The wind was just off the nose for the second part of the trip from Ulladulla. The skipper had jumped off with the other two crew and had been replaced by the skippers nephew who had fished a bit offshore but had never sailed.

12 hours after leaving Ulladulla we were only just past Jervois Bay, the nephew was feeling a little better and was able to stand his watch.

During the time alone on deck I had managed to find the perfect sail/rudder trim. With the main sheeted out just a little bit, the rudder just angled to leeward the boat settled into a path that kept us reasonably straight. As the Genoa filled it pushed the bow down, then the main would fill and push the bow up, when the sails started luffing the rudder would bear the boat away... And repeat
