  1. Thanks everyone.

I went to have a look at the FD's but they all have on-the-fly rig adjustment which is a bit complicated for a simple soul like me.

I'm a bit nervous about an aluminium hook rack as I've seen one fail in spectacular fashion.

I've narrowed it down to two options:

    1. An Allen Brothers Highfield lever (if I can find one)

    2. A mast hound mounted upside down with a stay adjuster attached (easy to find)

    Cheers,

    Chris

Deckhardware in Sydney carry the Allen range in Australia, they will post to New Zealand

  2. From the dark recesses of my memory...

Alloy plate 150mm long with hooks every 15mm attached to the mast, wire halyard has an eye sliced at the end which is hooked over the plate, tension as required

I will be at the local boat shop later today, I will see what I can find out

  3. Send it originates from a viral Facebook video posted on March 1st, 2017. The short clip features a stuntman nicknamed Larry Enticer who utters memorable catch phrases before jumping his snowmobile. “Are you silly?” he asks, before claiming that he’s “still gonna send it” despite the dark and frigid conditions outside. Larry proceeds to crash his snowmobile.

My first introduction to the term was in New Zealand in 2011 I think... But I may be wrong

  4. Outrageous Fortune... Truxton appeared with the new breeze but we managed to hold them off

White kite against cloudy background is a certain type of torture that I hope to avoid in the future

  5. It was a fun race, but another one where most of us were still out there at the time of the scheduled prize giving.

If only we could have shaken that little boat behind us with the big purple kite...

    It was a fun race...

Only race where the discussion was "if we don't have wind by midnight we will have to start the motor so crew can get to work" (At that stage we were leading on LH)

  6.

I mentioned above a boat who uses Dyneema shrouds. In those it has a section that goes around a decent sized sheeve when they want to adjust the rig which is fine.

    Canting rig?

Are you allowed to name the boat or do I need to try three guesses?

  7. Pre-season rig check completed;

Windex, VHF aerial, Wind kit, lots of sheaves checked, masthead light, steaming light, spreader lights, spreader boots reset, stays , track cleaned, resealed all cable entries etc ...

For bonus points you must drop the mast while motoring, navigate under two bridges, raise the mast while being passed by large motor palaces that are kicking up a 0.5m wake. 32 foot, mast head rig, telephone pole for a mast section!

The joys of sailing in Perth

  8. In Australia the auto shops stock it apparently

    Marine shop... $50

BCF (is that your FCB?)... $35

    Autobahn... ??? (I can't find a price online yet)

I wonder if it is the same stuff

  9. 2 of us came back from Aussie last year each carrying a inflateable jacket in full view (in their mesh bags), no one said a word. Qantas.

Otto suggested mid Tasman, after a few too many beers, I stand up pull the cord and throw it into the aise while shouting Alle Ackbar. Luckily I hadn't had as many beers.

    Why would they stop you?

There is already an inflatable life jacket under the seat, you didn't have to BYO

  10. I did the Melbourne to Hobart via the West Coast some years ago.

The first 24 hours was on the nose with 55knts for far too long.

The boat was 55 foot of cruising boat, slow and heavy but after the first night we were about 500m abeam of Bagatelle, a 40 foot cat with an air draft of 60 foot. Depending on the timing with the waves we lost sight of them completely.

12 hours later we had no wind or waves and a local fisherman was offering us fresh crayfish... We declined as we didn't have a pot big enough

  11. You can easily cut it down. Just a hacksaw job. Forestay might be a bit loose in the groove depending on diameter. Foil is in pretty good nick. Had no issues with it in the first RNI. Yours if you want it!! PM me for Ph no and address. Cheers!

Check if the luff tape rope is the same size
