indeed, sorry mines stuck up the top of the mast, have to admit the sever is very stable, but may be a glitch somewhere has reset some of the settings, worth a check. Will be down in my boat tomorrow so will have a look to see if there’s any wind status confirmations.

  2. Thx MMT

So the class rules on Foil Flap are very rigid, limits it to a plane wing type flap, only there to get the wing up or down. No feathering then. Would make it quick to move thru a tack.

  3. Have been going down this track too, compliance for insurance. PIA

My solution was to remove the gas tank from under the sink, remove all the gas hardware from my burnsco 2 element hob, then cut a hole In the top plate and insert the unit that Beccara posted. Works a treat, retained a gimballed element with safety rail and is enough to boil the billy.

  4. I’ve been going thru exactly the same insurance issues, berthed at WestHaven

My insurance was increased 20% because “it’s an older boat” excuse, and requiring another survey.

The surveyers of course have to cover themselves as they are liable should something go wrong so they will dot the I’s and cross the T’s. The insurance company writes the contract such that anything that could lay a claim can be written off as poor maintenance, seamanship or any other reason such that you really don’t have any claimable insurance.

So between the surveyers, insurance company’s and Marinas demands for $5M 3rd party insurance the local boat owner is mincemeat.

Have found 3rd party insurance available from

  5. So I’m in the process of restoring Barbarians decks, and have come to the windows. I’m keen to try and preserve as much of the original character of the yacht I.e I’m not trying to make it all new.

Have resealed the windows a couple of times over the last 20 years.

The first time with some sika, didn’t last long till their were leaks, the 2nd time with mastic which was great but that sticky non hardening mastic is forever easing out and sticks like STABlanket.

Those screws spaced every 70mm around the window don’t help, just 1 not right and water finds it’s way. Also restoring the aluminium frames is proving less than easy, has to be completely cleaned of all paint/silicon and all I’ll end up with is the same issues.

Having read the last windows topic, http://crew.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic/14097-window-replacement/?hl=window%20replacement

    I. Would like to go down the same path but have 2 questions that members may be able to help with.

    1. How many have had leak problems having implemented stick on windows ?

    2. What neutral density of acrylic have members used allowing good light but some privacy.

The pix Willow put in the last thread look good.
