  1. Most people stuff their night vision by staring at a chart plotter if you keep the cockpit dark you can usually pick outlines phosperence helps sometimes ive been out on very dark nights with rain .usually just tuck myself behind the dodger and poke head out every couple of minutes to look for lights.Having a good windvane or autopilot makes it bearable. And hot soup.

  2. Wheels i agree with you on most of your posts but have to pull you up on slamming Wharrams they are very seaworthy craft and I would be proud to own one.A Tiki 21 did a circumnavigation years ago.A well built one is a great machine a bit like ferros some well built some not so.

  3. Phil is bang on the money I did a bit in the ninetys before it was well known.Did one stint from Te Waiwai bay to Dunedin,First attempt got my kayak smashed in half 2 km offshore by big breaker, big swim ashore.Second attempt made it 300 kms in 10 days.Wouldnt try it today if I was paid a million bucks. Its serious stuff down there if you try it learn to roll both ways left and right and get heaps of surfing practice bigger the better,we used to go out in northerly storms off Mapua and practice,That saved our lives down south.Paul Caffyn tried to get me to do the tasman with him but just couldnt imagine a storm at sea in the dark in a kayak so declined. Its doable but just take baby steps good luck.

  4. I was recently at French Pass jetty and the brand new Garmin Gps had us on top of the hill behind it Like IT said your eyes are the best most trustworthy navigation device,Updated charts are good to sail with a few years back we sailed into Tauranga harbour at night with a dodgy motor no GPS and a chart from 1974 wasnt fun.

  5. Im with Booboo have just had a third reef installed in my main I have a stack pack and a hell of a lot of ropes around my mast Trying to raise a trysail would be a nightmare,I do have a dedicated track and have played with the trysail think I will only use it if boom breaks.

  6. Hi Wheels yes I had both hoses off have had motor out so I could clean and paint both motor and engine bay,Am hoping motor will pump air out when its running,There is a bleed valve at a high piont up by my header tank so am hoping air will purge out that ,Cant start motor yet as need exaust gasket.hopefully tommorow.Cheers Dan

  7. Im not very computer literate so cant do diagrams the water sucks up from the keel in front of the motor and returns the water to the keel at the back of the motor,I have no idea whats in the tank baffles etc,No salt water comes into the boat as the exhaust is dry.I am going to hook the hoses up again and run it for a short time and hope it forces the air out,but am not hopefull.I sucked the old coolant out with a suction pump from the bottom of the tank, and when I tried to refill it no water would fit.

  8. I have just drained 10 litres of cooling water out of my keel tank to up my coolent percentage and cant fit any more in ,it just pours straight out again, does anyone have any ideas how to purge the air out, cheers Dan

  9. the chimney will go through the deck and the intake will come out of the head old school system supposed to give a good airflow to flame and eliminate blowbacks,we will see eh

  10. Awesome erice thanks thats the stuff the heater is a bit bigger than the one pictured and has a flue for the intake instead of a fan underneith its supposed to help it burn,I got it for 500 hundy off a haida 25,it came with all the flue and chimney. The intake flue is supposed to go out the deck as well as the chimney, but I will vent mine into my head which has a dorade vent in it,which will eliminate two holes in the deck.

  11. Sorry guys will try and make it a bit clearer,Its a sig diesel heater and the door on the front which you open to light has a window in it so you can see the flame its this window which is torn .Its not glass looks and feels like brittle plastic.Hope this helps thanks
