  1. Hiya,

I am after about 5m of black shielded 24AWG cable for NMEA0183. I dont want to buy a roll of 100m - anyone know where I can buy odd lengths? mouse, rs, farnell all sell it by the roll.

    Cheers

  2. I have got a shiny new Raymarine Axiom Pro plotter. It can import and export GPX routes.

I tried to create a route in OpenCPN and import it into the Axiom which should work - but it didn't - the Axiom simply said "failed".

I have compared the contents of two files - one created in the Axiom and one in OpenCPN with almost identical waypoints. Here are the differences:

Does anyone know what the Axiom is being picky about? Are there any options in OpenCPN which might improve the compatability?

    Cheers

  3. Worth noting that Iridium go will get a speed increase when the Next constellation of satellites are live (about half are already up). This should be sometime this year.

Note sure how much speed increase - I have heard various answers - some saying as fast as 3G. I am sure they will want more money to use the Go at these speeds.

  4. My experience with them has been less than helpful also.  Their backup on a product I purchased off them was useless.  In the end I had to ring the supplier myself and sort the issue.  They seem to direct import a lot of stuff bypassing the local agent/distributor.

Personally I also choose to get bitten once and then shop elsewhere also.  Lucky for us there are some very good and reputable suppliers out there.

Of course if you want fishing tackle and bbq's well Marine Deals are probably a good choice.

The real shame is that I think Standard Horizon actually is a pretty good brand, at a good price. I suspect they parallel import them too.

  5. Marine Deals sell them, maybe it is them or they can point you in the right direction.

Funny you should mention it. Rang Marine Deals and this is how the call went:

Q: Hey I have a Standard Horizon Radio that needs service. Can you tell me who that is or tell me who the Distributor is in NZ?

A: Did you buy it from us?

Q: Dunno - was on the boat when I got it.

A: If didn't sell it we can't help.

Q: I get that, but perhaps you can just tell me who the distributor is - if they do not service them they will know who will.

    A: Sorry that is confidential.

Q: Perhaps then you could ring the distributor for me, and ask the question on my behalf?

    A: I don't think this is possible.

Not very helpful. I will not buy anything from Marine Deals again on principal.

  6. Hi Guys,

I have a GX2100 Matrix AIS Standard Horizon VHF radio which needs to go to the local repair agent for a MMSI number change.

If there isn't one in NZ its vkradio.com.au in Australia.

Does anyone know who this is in NZ?

    Cheers

  7. Yeah I might have a look and see if there is the option to turn off certain community edits. I like the Bathymetry - but don't trust some of that other crap.

I will leave i the fishing spots - though at the moment rusty hooks with nothing on them just about do the job!!

I would hope Navionics would have some sort of validation going on behind the scenes?

  8. Hi All,

I was on a trip to Blackpool, Waiheke recently and noticed on my Navioncs chart there was a wreck icon with information that it came to within 3m of the surface in 9m of water (that is a tall wreck?) and a icon for a port pole marker. (See Picture)

    1) I could not see the port marker.

    2) The wreck is not on the offiical hydro chart.

The data appears to be one of these community edits.

Has anyone experienced these edits that don't appear to be correct? I thought Navionics validated this stuff?

    Cheers
