  1. Does anyone have a recommendation for a person to do some work on the hydraulics of a autopilot in Auckland. It needs a valve replacement and the old part is end of life, so it may require and upgrade.
  2. PS: for permenant boat internet these are good and cheap cellular routers https://www.gowifi.co.nz/wireless/rb912r-2nd-ltm_r11e-lte.html They take a range of DV input voltages and come with a unterminated connector in addition to the AC adapter.
  3. We did pretty much that. Got a smart TV with baby inverter and just use the built in TV on demand apps to stream live TV. To get the data connection you can just hotspot from your phone, and if connection is a bit patchy sometimes sending the phone up the mast on a halyard helps. The 12v TVs we saw in the marine shops didn't look very good hence why we got the inverter. Generally the cell tower at barrier over summer seems saturated (I think the backhaul is microwave) but other achorages seem ok. If netflix is your thing then download before hand.
  4. Hi, Coming out at HMB in a few weeks and need to give the tanks a clean out - unfortunately that are full, which is about 250L of Diesel. Nothing wrong with the Diesel in there, so looking for a way to temporarily store it before it goes back in, which will be through a filter. Anyone have any suggestions for a economical way to do this? I wondered about 40Gal drums but haven't got as far as researching where to get clean ones that wouldn't be contaminated. Also going to need a reasonably beefy pump too.
  5. Anyone know the situation at HMB? We are due to haul out there, and while I am sure they will squirt the boat down in the slings, I am guessing there will be no hose use once in cradle?

    Yammy 15

Yeah I have heard they are good to deal with.
  7. The link here filled in a few gaps : https://www.navionics.com/usa/blog/post/lowrance-simrad-and-b-and-g-plotter-owners-learn-how-to-upload-logs I had thought that the chart card in my plotter had to have a valid subscription for sonar chart live, but it looks like there is another way. I have the Navionics boating app on my phone and it looks like even if the chart card is not currently licensed it does it via the phone app. So yes - you are probably right that would be our track in the display.
  8. I noticed this on my Navionics App the other day: The swath of new bathy is obviously from a boat with one of those bottom sonars (which we have too) and i think you need a navionics subscription to upload it. Anyone else done it, or know how long it takes for them to publish it?

    Yammy 15

Veladare - did you get the yammy? Which one? A Yamaha 15HP is on my wish list, and I too looked at the weight difference. How much did you end up paying?
  10. Haven't encountered them yet (touch wood) but your not the first person to say that
  11. Any how back to lazy jacks / stack packs 😀 Just got ours installed but haven't had much chance to test it out. Who else runs lines forward when raising main? (I'm very happy with the quality of the work on this so far (Craft Covers)

  13. Finally got the stack pack installed. Pretty happy with it so far:
  14. Looks like a speed machine! (Not the VW)
  15. I am very concerned at the health of the Gulf. To try to do my bit, whenever we walk along the beach the kids pick up plastic, and when we are on the boat we turn around to fish plastic (normally bait bags) out of the water - gives the kids good practice with the boat hook! On the land side of things it is heartening to see that now there are good Kiwi numbers on Motuhie, Motutapu, Rotoroa, Tiri, Kawau, Motuora, Little Barrier. I was on Motuhie recently watching the kiwi and Tuatara while looking at the sky tower. Awsome - wish we could fix below the surface as easily.
  16. Sounds like we agree on the price side of things!! There were the other reasons I went against gimballed. Is your mount dampened? How did you do it? Do you normally alter your G/SC settings or find that auto does a good enough job?
  17. Looking back I am still happy that we didn't go with gimbals. The Scan strut gimbal mount is very pricey, and I decided against it on both financial reasons and that its another moving part which could fail. Alll the flexing wouldn't do the cable much good either. Looking back - the only thing I might do differently is mount the radar a little lower - as IT pointed out less movement probably helps with a better image. I might consider a pole on the transom, as we have ours near the first spreader we loose small close targets at slightly under 10m. The beam is sufficiently wide (24 de
  18. Good to know; about the rort on life rafts. IridiumGo Marine - Ebay - $1600NZD
  19. Thinking about going to the islands in the next year or so. A 6 person Life raft and IridiumGo are two items that I am unlikely to use again, so looking to rent. Is anyone who has these interested in renting them, and if so what would the price be per month? Just looking to get an idea of costs. If raft isn't current inspection, we would arrange that OFC, and for the Go would also use our own sim. Thanks.
  20. Agree with Winter on this - we had a issue the other day and the Maritime Police were reasonable and helpful.
  21. I would talk to both HM and Police Maritime unit. After you have filled with water they may put restrictions on how far you can then go (nearest safe anchorage). I have heard reports that those coming back from the barrier are not allowed to go out again.
  22. In the meantime post a pic of this view. It sounds magnificent, and I can just image what it was like today!
  23. Dagwood - thanks for your insights, sounds like you have been in the industry. I finally found the correct word for what we have - a reverse counter transom. Do you care to reccomend anyone? Someone out East Auckland would be great. Cheers,
