America's Cup 2021: Prada Cup final postponed due to Auckland Covid-19 lockdown
ben's fully supportive of this safety move
-
AJ
we've just been told we're back into a level 3 lockdown
a family cluster of 3, mum works at an airline food company
so schools and shops basically closed from midnight and everyone asked to stay home
like melbourne our 3rd lockdown
rest of nz goes to level 2
kicks off 11.59pm tonight in 4 hours
wonder if racing tomorrow will be cancelled tomorrow?
no groups larger than 10 permitted
will ineos get a covid reprieve to turn their boat around?
-
ben's on empty
the team's on empty
he and gile?'s dinghy sailing hasn't prepared them for match racing starts
in high winds they may win a race or 2
but they'd never challenge etnz in the lighter stuff forecast for next month
so it's best that....

Plenty of wind awaits the Prada Cup finalists for races three and four today.
Luna Rossa and Ineos Team UK will race on course E today with gusts of up to 18 knots expected.
-
benny says they lost the 2nd, average winds, race because they were still carrying the big light air jib
and it's the only thing he can change...
-
not to worry
labour have got this!
Broadcasting Minister Kris Faafoi is announcing a funding package for journalism.
It's the second announcement for the media sector since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
-
the end of ineos
shot their wad of mods to get to the prada cup final
nothing left in tank
can't sail in the light
can't win in the medium
-
presumably not here or we'd have heard
meanwhile debate rages about falling education standards in nz
not us say granny herald...............who are so confident in their
journalistswriters that they don't even need to use spell-checkersagreement between the Challenger of Record and the Defender, which Murray suggested wase unlikely.

Ernesto Bertarelli wants to return to the prestigious regatta, even as a lead challenger, if Italy's Luna Rossa win the cup.
Other big backers are tipped to follow Berteralli, especially if he becomes the challenger of record.

yes, one news it does pass the spell check, but you've got to do better than that

In the lead up to this weekend the forecasts had been suggesting very light conditions, now the picture looks better with slightly stronger north easterly breezes in store starting at around 8-11kts and building to 14kts by the end of the afternoon.
Racing is anticipated to take place on Course A, out in the Hauraki Gulf.
but race director Iain Murray admits there could be a delay with the first race due to light winds.
The wind is predicted to be in the 8-11 knots range for the 4.15pm start time, before rising to 12-14 at 5.15 and about 14 for a 6pm start. Racing cannot start any later than 6pm.

Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli vs INEOS TEAM UK
Exact time will depend on weather conditions -
17:12 FINAL – RACE 2 STARTS
INEOS TEAM UK vs Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli
Exact time will depend on weather conditionsalsoit has been decided to leave the current upper wind limit at 21 knots for the Prada Cup Final and the Match and not increase it to 23 knots as originally specified in the Race Conditions.
The lower wind limit of 6.5 knots remains unchanged.
The Regatta Director, after consulting with the Challenger of Record and the Defender has also changed the Sailing Instructions for the PRADA Cup and the 36th America’s Cup Match as follows:15’ RULE
Similar to the rule that was used in round robins three and four of the PRADA CUP, a competitor may on one occasion ask for a delay of 15 minutes of the start of a race.

During his court appearance on Wednesday, the man was remanded in custody under an interim recall to prison without entering a plea, and was granted interim name suppression.
-
you realise of course
that there are many mental + personality conditions shared by those in prison that don't improve no matter how much money is thrown at them
so when people say "they didn't get the help they needed"......it's often not because it wasn't offered but because it either doesn't exist or the offer of help was refused
ie what's the treatment for foetal alcohol disorder?
There is no particular treatment for foetal alcohol syndrome, and the damage to the child's brain and organs cannot be reversed.
If we take the whole range of mental illness, from common disorders such as anxiety and depression, to severe disorders such as schizophrenia, and the hinterland of other conditions, such as personality disorder and intellectual disability, then approximately 50% of all patients with mental illness either have no satisfactory treatments available or often fail to respond to existing ones that may help others.
Psychotherapy, also called talk therapy, is sometimes used to treat antisocial personality disorder. Therapy may include, for example, anger and violence management, treatment for alcohol or substance misuse, and treatment for other mental health conditions.
But psychotherapy is not always effective, especially if symptoms are severe and the person can't admit that he or she contributes to serious problems.
Because people with antisocial personality tend to blame others, have a low tolerance for frustration, are impulsive and rarely form trusting relationships, working with these individuals is difficult. People with ASP often lack the motivation to improve and are notoriously poor self-observers. They simply do not see themselves as others do.
and we haven't even started on the psychopaths...
so by all means offer treatment, just don't expect the need for prisons to go away

What we should do, to make it seem really expensive, is take the cost of 3 years work, and apply to a few 20 minute races! 🙄😆
and then we should do the same with the olympics
how dare those athletes spend so much time selfishly training when they could be building housing for humanity

A furious man captured on video ramming a woman's runabout in a moment of boat rage is a convicted murderer on life parole who could now be recalled to prison.
A Herald investigation can reveal the man is John Frederick Dixon who was jailed in 1979 for beating a night watchman to death after the man refused to loan Dixon money.
Aged just 16 at the time of the killing, Dixon was then one of the country's youngest murderers.
His trial heard allegations that he suffered from severe anger issues and was prone to flying into fits of rage.

in japan many restaurants have "all you can eat", tabehodai
and "all you can drink" nomihodai menus for very reasonable prices
yet very few people eat and drink themselves to an immovable stupor as they would here
which is largely why restaurants here......... don't go there
https://nihonscope.com/food-and-sake/what-does-nomihodai-in-japanese-mean/
A Few Etiquette Rules to Keep in Mind:
- Foreigners usually abuse the hell out of nomihodai, with that in mind at least have the courtesy to drink your current beverage all the way first before asking for more. About 20 minutes before your time is over you’ll be given last call, don’t be rude and order 5 drinks effectively wasting the drinks because your dead drunk on the floor.

poor; AM, deano + terry
out with a bang!
then with a whimper
will they have a few runs with etnz before shipping out?
LR seems to have made some of the important strides they'll need to challenge sir ben on the black land-rover
jimmy loved the uncontested starts.....................that won't last!
looking forward to the finals
is it worth shipping/flying patriot + defiant home for a date with the sawzalls?
keep'em here, strip'em' out, flip'em upside down, do something carbon-neutral;o)
maybe on bastion point as rain shelters overlooking the waters of their brief lives
and if ngati whatua don't want them there, how about; the big concrete pad on rangitoto where the ww2 american base was(entrance to islington bay), make it part of an electric mountain bike trail from the rangitoto ferry to the motatapu gun emplacements
http://www.godleyhead.org.nz/the-gun-emplacements-and-magazines.html
viaduct toilet block roof?
or the sculpture farm
or plan to keep them ALL, the losers?, together
housing for humanity
make a real america's cup village

this was discussed well on the youtube livecast
apparently the rule that any competitor could delay a start ONCE in that series was already there but no one had used it
youtube was following the boats coms and we could hear the ineos crew complaining that they were losing hydraulic pressure even when nothing was happening, during the wind delays they traced the issue to a damaged downhaul system
so they used their one 15min delay card to isolate the hydraulic leak and manually lock the downhaul in 1 position
so prada had an advantage even before the start but made too many minor mistakes to capitalise on ineous's partially crippled main
